About

My goal is to better understand the crisis in American education and to uncover realistic solutions. Our present system is plagued by retention, dropout, and low achievement test scores. For many poor children there is a direct link between school failure and the prison system. And children who have the ability and motivation for college work are not given the preparation they need. The Elephant in the Classroom explores several American myths with the goal of turning dropouts into "drop-ins."
