Sophia Choukas-Bradley Ph.D.

Sophia Choukas-Bradley, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. She is the director of the Teen and Young Adult Lab, a group of researchers investigating interpersonal and sociocultural influences on adolescent development and mental health. Much of Dr. Choukas-Bradley’s research focuses on gender and sexuality. She is especially passionate about understanding teen social media use, body image, and LGBTQ+ identities.

Dr. Choukas-Bradley holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from Brown University and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed a predoctoral clinical psychology internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Western Psychiatric Hospital. Dr. Choukas-Bradley has published over 70 academic articles and book chapters. Her research has been recognized with several honors, including a 2020 Rising Star Award from the Association for Psychological Science. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses focused on adolescence, social development, and psychopathology. Her research and expertise have been featured in many popular media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and HuffPost.
