Martha Peaslee Levine, M.D., is associate professor of pediatrics, psychiatry, and humanities at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and director of the Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Eating Disorder Programs.

She uses journaling techniques in individual and group therapy because she finds that writing encourages self-discovery, self-acceptance and improved self-confidence.

Dr. Levine has presented at national and international conferences on eating disorder treatment and on the benefits of writing. Dr. Levine’s publications include award-winning poetry, fiction and children’s books,including Stop That Nose! and The Dragon Inside, which deals with creativity and healing. She has also written articles and op-ed pieces to educate the public on eating disorders and teaches at the Penn State College of Medicine.
