Marc Lener MD

Marc Lener, MD, is a psychiatrist in private practice in New York City and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Singula Institute, a 501(c)(3) organization, whose vision is to transform mental health diagnostics and treatment for individuals at risk for anxiety and depression. Through the creation of a Learning Health System that obtains multimodal data across biological, psychological, and social dimensions of mental functioning throughout the diagnostic evaluation and treatment process, Singula Institute will provide a first-of-its-kind precision medicine for mental health. In support of his vision, Dr. Lener shares his knowledge and work by speaking on topics of anxiety, depression, substance abuse, suicide, grief and loss, and challenges in life transitions.

In his private practice, Dr. Lener treats adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADHD, relationship issues, grief and bereavement, issues with career planning, and challenging adjustments to major life transitions. His private practice work with his patients alongside his clinical research training have been the inspiration for building Singula Institute.

Dr. Lener completed his undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in The Biological Basis of Behavior. Dr. Lener completed his medical training at The George Washington University School of Medicine while spending a significant amount of time at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) as a research student at the Clinical Brain Disorders Branch. Dr. Lener completed his Psychiatry residency training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) in New York City, where he was accepted into a specialized research track allowing him to examine neurobiological correlates of psychiatric illness, and at the same time, completed a Psychoanalytic Fellowship at the New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (NYPSI) in order to further his skills in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy approaches. After residency, Dr. Lener completed a 3-year Clinical Research Fellowship at the Experimental Therapeutics and Pathophysiology Branch at the NIMH, where he was examining neural correlates of depression heterogeneity to identify biological markers of depression risk and treatment response.
