John Read, Ph.D., has published over 150 research papers, primarily on the relationship between adverse life events and psychosis. He also researches the negative effects of bio-genetic causal explanations on prejudice, the experiences of recipients of anti-psychotic and anti-depressant medication, electroconvulsive therapy, and the role of the pharmaceutical industry

John is on the boards of the International Institute for Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal and the Hearing Voices Network, England.

He has been the editor of the scientific journal Psychosis for 11 years and is the editor of several books, including Models of Madness (Read J, Dillon J, Routledge, 2013) and A Straight Talking Introduction to the Causes of Mental Health Problems (Read J, Sanders P, PCCS Books, 2012).
