Systemic Psychotherapy, also known as Couple or Family Therapy, attempts to understand a person’s distress within the situation in which it occurs, such as in the person’s family, couple relationship or in the wider environment. This therapeutic approach does not isolate the person, but rather helps individuals make sense of their difficulties in the context of their present lives. A family therapist believes that, while the origin of a problem may well have a foundation in the past, the solution can often be found in current relationships.

As a therapist, I will offer a safe place where you can explore your issues and begin to understand your reactions to situations. With this understanding can come power, control and ultimately change. This will be a journey we take together with acceptance, curiosity and understanding.

Clients often come to therapy because they have a a problem in living or are stuck in a problematic life pattern and desire to change it. This problem is usually manifest in symptoms such as anxiety or depression.

Hi my name is Helen. I work within a Person Centered Approach while also drawing on relative aspects of different theories that may assist with the therapeutic process. I see my job as therapist is to help clients acknowledge, experience and bear the realities of life. I believe the safe, non-judgmental space of therapy will allow you to address difficulties in your life that are causing distress. I hope that for you therapy will be a place to resolve any issues from the past, learn to be more present in the moment and build on a positive future.

Therapy is a very personal process and as such the right therapist is very important to develop a trusting deeply respectful relationship between client and therapist. I am very happy to offer a 30 minute meeting free of charge in order to see if I am the right person for you the client.

The client who is motivated to engage with the work of therapy is my ideal client, whether it is in Individual Therapy or Group Therapy. I meet with a new client for a number of sessions so that we can decide together what might be the most beneficial form of therapy. From there, the client usually agrees to make a commitment to meeting regularly, giving themselves the time it takes to begin the know and understand their emotional issues.

Anne has twenty years’ experience as a psychotherapist. She believes that every person is worthy of living a fulfilling life.
