Despite our best efforts, there are particular times when life can become difficult and situations can become overwhelming. It is in this place one often starts to consider the support found in Counselling and Psychotherapy. As Kubler-Ross wrote: People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

If you find it difficult to cope, suffer from stress, panic, fear, anxiety, depression or emotional difficulties. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help. Are you your own harshest critic, feeling not good enough, feeling stuck, lost or comparing yourself to others? Does this impact your mood or behavior? Counselling can help you to feel better about yourself and feel more connected, by making changes to uncover your strengths. It can be a space to talk about distressing experiences, to help you deal constructively with your difficulties and overcome obstacles to help you heal and grow on a journey to self discovery.

From my perspective, psychotherapy means healing. It is the opening, where individuals begin to experience a more full contact with themselves and the outside world. I help them understand their emotions that signpost their needs. I help them to discover their unfulfilled needs and, together, we look for obstacles and barriers that could prevent people from fully enjoying their lives. One step at a time, they become increasingly ready to lead their lives consciously. They begin to authentically live, rather than continue, their lives.

Making the decision to attend psychotherapy can be a positive step. It can help to gain a greater understanding to find the resources to make changes. It can also lead to self-discovery and self-awareness to live a more fulfilling life and to have more meaningful interpersonal relationships. I believe people can be the editors of their own lives, active agents of change, especially when the situations or others around us cannot. This doesn’t mean all things can be changed by us in the way we would like. It simply means sometimes that having more understanding around something, helps things to change or allows us to cope better.

We all want to feel empowered to live our best life. The problem for most of us is that we don't know how and end up feeling depressed, anxious, frustrated or stuck – and we usually turn to food, alcohol, drugs or other behaviours to help us feel better. Working integratively I include all of the elements that make up your whole person including conscious thoughts, unconscious senses, behaviours, somatic sensations and systemic influences. Contacting me is the first step towards YOU becoming empowered to create YOUR best life!

Working in Dublin 4 I get people of different ages and with many issues. I find relationship issues appear to make life difficult for lots of people and of course anxiety. Being in the upper age bracket I have a lot of life experience and feel this is my niche area.

Welcome to Next Step Therapy, an experienced and friendly therapy practice in the heart of Dublin. Our clinical services are: counselling and psychotherapy, addiction assessment and treatment, EMDR for PTSD and complex trauma. I see my therapy room as a sacred space where people can explore things they usually don’t talk about. I approach therapy with an attentive reverence and an attitude of kindness and compassion. The process of therapy is to offer a safe place to explore and name and then change, or accept, these thoughts, attitudes, feelings, moods or behaviours and to experience someone who listens and supports.
