"At times in our lives we can feel over-whelmed, that we can’t cope, when depression and anxiety take over. At such times we can end up feeling stuck, not knowing what to do next. Old patterns of behaviour and coping strategies, which were once effective, may now operate as a stumbling block in our lives." Hi, my name is Sinéad and since qualifying as a Psychotherapist I have undergone further training in the areas of Somatics and Emotion Focused Therapy with an emphasis on working with trauma, loss and attachment. I use an integrative approach, adopting my therapeutic style to the specific needs of the client.

Meeting regularly with a psychotherapist or psychoanalyst can be one of the most important steps a person takes on the road to better mental health. Dedicating the time and commitment to this has proven in our experience, to work in the alleviation of a range of personal difficulties. These difficulties can include depression, obsessional thinking, eating disorders, anxiety, sexuality issues, relationship difficulties, loneliness and isolation and chronic fatigue. Working with a therapist over a period of time is an important and active step toward a better sense of self, better relationships and overall good mental health.

I work with young people, individual adults and couples. At our initial consultation, I have two objectives: to assess whether we can work together as therapist and client, and also to assess what is the appropriate therapy to offer you. Therapy is work. I offer a carefully-bounded confidential space in which to speak of anxiety, depression, hopes and dreams. My principal mode of working is a talking therapy but where appropriate I may recommend coping strategies (e.g. for panic attacks) and psycho-education (e.g. books or podcasts). In return I expect you to attend weekly, speak freely, and pay promptly.

If you are an adult and have experienced abuse and/or neglect during your early years, then this is an area I have a particular interest in. Equally, if you are looking to gain insight into how early experience comes to shape and mould our adult selves, then perhaps I can help. It may be that you are experiencing a lack of joy or meaning in life and are looking for a safe and confidential space to explore your inner world. You may have anxiety, depression, obsessional thoughts, addictions, relational issues, loneliness, or it may simply be that you are attempting to situate yourself meaningfully into the greater social fabric

You may have been be struggling with something for a long time. You may have fears, anxieties that limit your life. You might notice patterns repeating themselves in your life. Some issues may seem too difficult to resolve. You may need to explore some things in your life that are difficult to discuss with those who are close to you. You may not yet have the words to describe how you feel.

“One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful”. My work is psychoanalytically oriented and is based on the belief that you already have the solution. So, let’s find it! The practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy recognises that often, the language (verbal and non-verbal) of that solution only needs to be heard in order to be consciously realised and put into action. I will help you identify and define this language.

The most important thing I do is provide a judgement-free place for people to share what's been troubling them. I am an integrative psychotherapist, meaning I work flexibly depending on each client's preferred way of working and the goals they set for their therapy.

Relationships have the potential to heal. Psychotherapy seeks to fulfill that potential. Psychotherapy creates an atmosphere of connectedness and union, in order that difficult experiences or emotions can be safely shared, acknowledged and integrated. The therapeutic connection becomes the safe space in which this happens. This emotional integration enables change and growth to happen for you. Whether you need to explore your relationships, your internal world or something difficult from your past; therapy has the potential to help.

I work with people who come to counselling for a wide variety of reasons. Perhaps in your case you've been aware things aren't the way you'd like them to be, and perhaps you've been struggling quite a bit. Maybe you've been thinking that you can manage this yourself, but now you are not so sure, but the thought of speaking about it, really being honest about it, is pretty scary. The struggle might be anything; anxiety, feeling low, feeling bad about yourself, memories that disturb you, behaviours you can't seem to get a handle on, struggling after a loss, just feeling that you're not yourself or who you know you can be.
