Life can present us with various situations, some more difficult than others. Some of these situations we can manage ourselves or with the support of family and friends. Other situations can seem too much for us to face on our own. Even understanding why, we feel the way we do can be distressing for us. We don’t have to suffer in this way. Counselling is there to help you to understand these situations and to work through these difficulties. Counselling for Wellbeing offers a safe, supportive and confidential environment. The process of Counselling and Psychotherapy is non-judgmental and supports healing and wellbeing.

I'm experienced in working with the many and varied issues that can arise from living in dysfunction and how these issues can have an adverse effect on relationships and coping skills.
People present for counselling for various reasons, including anxiety, depression, intimacy issues, alcohol/drug-related issues, etc. The uncertainty around attending counselling for the first time is understandably frightening for some

When something in your life is not how you'd like it to be, or when you're looking for help and support for something that you're going through; perhaps a life event, a particular concern or maybe problems with relationships, at home, in school or at work. Maybe you are experiencing feelings of anxiety, frustration, fear, sadness or other emotions. Stress can be a part of this. Counselling can help you to better understand what might be going on for you, and to find ways to effectively manage feelings, thoughts or worries. My experience is that clients come to counselling because they want something in their life to be different.

Life and relating to others can at times feel very hard. Please do contact me if any or a combination of the following reflect your experience as my support seems to be most effective in these areas: Feeling alone or isolated; living with a sense of fear, dread or being overwhelmed; trying to cope with events that are or have been ‘traumatic’; lacking confidence in your own abilities and judgement; or having a sense of deep pain. I believe and know that despite the pain and distress these can cause, there is also the possibility for healing, growth, making changes and (re)finding a sense of self, purpose and joy in life again.

Many people come to therapy with the aim of being restored to how they were before things stopped working so well for them.
In my practice I work with a broad range of clients including young people (16-25), neurodiverse, LGBTQ+ and GSRD identifying clients. I believe that each and every one of my clients has a unique experience and so each therapy begins and ends differently. I often help clients to address issues around sexuality and gender as well as working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

I use different processes to explore the triggers & find new ways to manage couple conflict.
I first became interested in counselling as a way for me to find happiness in my own life. I am now dedicated to help others suffering from anxiety within their own life, among other things. I appreciate how hard it can be when you are struggling with life and with issues of a private nature. My aim is to help others find happiness in their life again.

He works with adults of all ages on matters such as self-esteem, depression, anxiety, trauma, spiritual crisis, relationship issues and the many manifestations of loss.
Being hu man is not easy. It can be challenging to find something safe to rely on to when so much changes, sometimes without warning. Therapy provides a unique space to safely explore the painful parts of hu man experience, including difficulties with anxiety, depression or relationship issues, for example. Therapy can give the support and safety needed to explore and understand your experience, and often to reframe the beliefs, feelings and behaviours of your lived experience, so that ultimately you suffer less.

I initially attempt to provide a sense of ease in counseling sessions because before therapy can be productive it must, firstly, feel safe. From there, goals that the client might like to achieve naturally emerge in the conversation. These goals can be anything at all: from wishing to feel less anxious, sad, irritable or troubled, to addressing relationship difficulties at home or at work, to trying to better understand a feeling of being unfulfilled, thinking or feeling differently about our pasts or, in many cases, just to have a safe place to discuss anything at all in a confidential, non-judgemental setting.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
