As a therapist, I am trained to listen to you in a particular way that is different to how you might be used to being listened to. When I sit or walk with you, I am paying attention to the different ways that you express yourself with words, tone, movement, and metaphor to see if we can get a sense together of what might be underlying what is troubling you or keeping you stuck. Our work together is a space in which you can be as you are, speak as you need to, play with ideas and dreams, and tune into your body as a rich source of information, but importantly, a place in which you can do this at your own pace.

Talk therapy is for anyone unhappy with life or an aspect of life and looking for support. With commitment and curiosity, therapy enables consideration of life challenges and what change is needed. Following an initial one-to-one session, a client agrees to work on a regular basis to explore their areas of concern. My role is to listen and provide support through objective, sensitive and holistic enquiry.

I love how resourceful people can be. Most of us don't question who we are or how we got here until in a crisis or conflict. Therapy can be useful for many reasons; self acceptance, letting go of others expectations, difficulties in relationships, feeling stuck, a personal challenge, or just learning more about yourself. I love studying the science of human behaviour and understanding why we are the way we are. I combine psychology and science with psychotherapy in my approach. I work with a wide variety of issues, and have additional training in a number of areas, constantly developing the services I can offer.

I specialise in working with people who experience a great deal of anxiety in their lives. This includes people with OCD, panic, generalised anxiety, and social anxiety. I also enjoy working with people who have difficulty with their relationship to their body (body image) and eating. The people I work with tend to feel their emotions quite intensely, and to care deeply about the world around them. My work with clients strives to create a compassionate space where they can find calm and a gentler way to relate to themselves.

Are you a professional woman in her 30s? Are you very busy and would like to do therapy in your time and in the comfort of your own home or office. Typically women come to me because they are feeling exhausted or overwhelmed. They are working very hard, life is super busy and they are unsure of what they want from life. They know there is more to life but can't figure it out, they often feel stuck. They procrastinate and constantly worry finding it hard to make a decision. Life has not turned out how they may have imagined and managing how they are feeling can be difficult.

Making the decision to attend psychotherapy can be a positive step. It can help to gain a greater understanding to find the resources to make changes. It can also lead to self-discovery and self-awareness to live a more fulfilling life and to have more meaningful interpersonal relationships. I believe people can be the editors of their own lives, active agents of change, especially when the situations or others around us cannot. This doesn’t mean all things can be changed by us in the way we would like. It simply means sometimes that having more understanding around something, helps things to change or allows us to cope better.

It can be daunting, picking up the phone or sending an email to request your first counselling session. Chances are you have found yourself here reading this profile because life has become difficult due maybe to excessive worry or a feeling of emptiness or a feeling of being at odds with your loved ones. I would love to hear from you, I believe that I can show you a way forward to peace, contentment, joy and a sense of well-being. “Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about unbecoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place”.

I am an accredited therapist and supervisor. I provide both short term counselling and longer-term psychotherapy on a one to one basis (not couples) in a confidential and safe environment including online. The process empowers you to explore issues and understand thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviours which cause suffering and facilitates the safe space to achieve greater awareness, insight, healing and growth. I work using a humanistic and integrative approach to psychotherapy. My approach is grounded in Person-Centred psychotherapy, while drawing on Psychodynamic theory, somatic psychotherapy and CBT where appropriate.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
