I have worked with clients on areas including but not limited to Adoption, Addiction, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Childhood Sexual Abuse, Childhood Physical Abuse, Grief, Life Transitions, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Sexuality, Suicidal Ideation and Trauma.
Opening up and acknowledging the route of our fears and anxieties, can be a very vulnerable part of us to share. However looking at this part of ourselves, sheds light upon what it is that has been holding us back and with this knowledge, we become empowered and begin to unlock their true potential.

Making the decision to come to therapy can be a difficult one. We often have lots of questions about what to expect, what it might be like and whether or not we need it. I understand this experience as I have been there myself, so I aim to provide a warm, welcoming and understanding environment to make this process as manageable as possible for you. The focus of my practice is in providing a safe, understanding and unconditional space for us to explore the current difficulties that you may be experiencing. I work relationally with my clients.

Offering Face to Face and Online therapy. One can present with an issue affecting their contentment in life, but what’s causing it? My approach is a Psychodynamic and Integrative one. Anxiety for example, may be a presenting issue, but what’s causing it? Depression is debilitating, but what’s being depressed? Trauma and coping mechanisms go hand in hand and are as individual as each and every one of us. An issue can be a symptom of something else, or a coping mechanism we have had for years. Through your own process, you will arrive at the root cause creating permanent change and be set free to more contentment.

“Overactive” busy minds have difficulty slowing down. I see it everyday. Having genes for a mental illness does not guarantee having one. Exposure to traumas is also needed to cause a disturbance in transmitters and hormones in the body. I help a person when they are looking for help in reducing psychiatric medications or before taking them. My experience involves helping a person process their traumas to heal them emotionally. In Walsh protocol , food supplements are prescribed instead of psychotropic medications that participate in hormonal and neurotransmitter metabolism. I can speak English, Hindi/ Urdu and Punjabi.

"At times in our lives we can feel over-whelmed, that we can’t cope, when depression and anxiety take over. At such times we can end up feeling stuck, not knowing what to do next. Old patterns of behaviour and coping strategies, which were once effective, may now operate as a stumbling block in our lives." Hi, my name is Sinéad and since qualifying as a Psychotherapist I have undergone further training in the areas of Somatics and Emotion Focused Therapy with an emphasis on working with trauma, loss and attachment. I use an integrative approach, adopting my therapeutic style to the specific needs of the client.

In my practice, I work in a way that is guided by the person who comes into the room and their presenting needs. It is a confidential, non-judgmental and safe space for you to explore your life experiences and unresolved feelings more deeply. The approach I use is called humanistic and integrative which means I draw on humanistic, psychodynamic and other relevant theories in our work together. While this all sounds very fancy, the essence of what this means to me is that we will work together in whatever way suits you as a client, in the hope that you will begin to deepen your awareness of the unconscious parts of yourself.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
