"At times in our lives we can feel over-whelmed, that we can’t cope, when depression and anxiety take over. At such times we can end up feeling stuck, not knowing what to do next. Old patterns of behaviour and coping strategies, which were once effective, may now operate as a stumbling block in our lives." Hi, my name is Sinéad and since qualifying as a Psychotherapist I have undergone further training in the areas of Somatics and Emotion Focused Therapy with an emphasis on working with trauma, loss and attachment. I use an integrative approach, adopting my therapeutic style to the specific needs of the client.

People come to therapy for many different reasons including relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, trauma, unresolved childhood issues and more. Some people will know their reasons for coming to therapy or the type of therapy they want, while others benefit from talking to a professional to gain understanding about their thoughts and feelings. I would love to hear from you so that we can begin working in a style and at a pace that suits you.

I have worked as a crisis therapist with Pieta Helpline and I also work in Suicide Bereavement. In life, we can often feel misunderstood, unseen, and unheard. Many of us may become overwhelmed and struggle with addiction, bereavement, suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, loneliness, feelings of isolation and more. I believe healing is a process. I facilitate a space for you to explore your needs and life goals more deeply, observing your strengths, qualities and values that can offer you a more meaningful life. Old Sufi saying "I was a Hidden Treasure; I loved to be known".

I have experience in helping a lot of people to tackle the issues like anxiety, addiction, depression, suicidal thinking, bereavement and loss, sexuality problems, stress, trauma, anger and others.
Do you feel depressed or anxious? Maybe you're stuck in your life situation? You want happiness, peace, direction... Let's work together to help you achieve your goals!!!!!!! You might be one of those people who struggles to control their drinking or carrying unbearable pain. It may also be that you have lost the meaning of life and whatever you do seems to go nowhere. You tried to deal with your issues on your own, but your attempts to gain control were not successful. You probably want to live a more fulfilling and happier life but you don't know how.

This includes working through past or current traumas, depressive states, grief, a range of anxious states, suicidal thoughts, and both planned and unplanned life changes.
While my approach is informed by humanist theories, I do not let these theories limit or define my work. I strive to meet clients where they are in their lives and understand their future aspirations. This understanding helps me tailor my therapeutic approach to best suit each individual. I make it a point to regularly check in with clients to ensure the path we're on is effective and aligned with their needs.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
