Relationship Issues Counselling in Waterford
We seek therapy for a number of reasons, at times due to a specific experience and at other times because we feel that there are patterns that we would like to address and / or change. Whatever the reason, the process of talking through our feelings and thoughts, in a safe, non-judgemental space, can, in itself, be healing and can propel or create change. You might feel lost in life, stuck, powerless, unable to function in the world without a mask, endlessly comparing yourself to those around you and never feeling or believing that you are enough or have enough.

I treat a variety of common mental health difficulties and life challenges (e.g. mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, complex trauma, relationships issues, stress, low self-esteem, perfectionist traits). Some people aren’t quite sure what’s going on for them, but something just doesn’t feel right. Whatever your struggle is, I want to help you to get your life on track, break out of unhelpful patterns of behaviour, and find meaning and satisfaction in life. I can offer you a safe and non-judgmental space to explore what it is that’s causing you difficulty, and an evidence-based approach to help you to finally move forward.

Therapy is food for the soul ! You can disclose what you feel comfortable talking about at your own pace in a confidential, safe, private space. Many people come to therapy to help with current struggles or past experiences, but many also attend just to maintain a good mindset. Each person’s life experience is different and as we know sometimes it can be challenging, therefore talking can help to clear our minds, uncover our struggles, and understand our emotions. Therapy can be challenging, but it can also be very rewarding. Everyone deserves to be heard and supported. Looking forward to meeting you :)

We think too much. Especially when worrying and anxious, when it can seem like our brain is on steroids. Because we are an intelligent species our brain has evolved to keep in mind our storehouse of memories of past stressful events. But retrieving pat stresses inevitably keeps the pains in the past very much in the present. Neuroscience shows we are wired to be acutely aware of potential dangers. And that's been evolutionarily advantageous. BUT you don't want to be feeling continually stressed. So, how do you WANT to feel instead? You certainly don't want to feel a prisoner of your feelings. How best to feel in control?

Anxiety, Worry, Low Mood, Low Self-Esteem are issues that present in all young people's lives but sometimes they can become so overwhelming that it's hard to cope with daily living and enjoyment in life. Talking through these issues and developing coping strategies can help the young person to start living life in a more fulfilling way again and the strategies learned in therapy can support them in other challenges they may face throughout their lives.

Are you a professional woman in her 30s? Are you very busy and would like to do therapy in your time and in the comfort of your own home or office. Typically women come to me because they are feeling exhausted or overwhelmed. They are working very hard, life is super busy and they are unsure of what they want from life. They know there is more to life but can't figure it out, they often feel stuck. They procrastinate and constantly worry finding it hard to make a decision. Life has not turned out how they may have imagined and managing how they are feeling can be difficult.

To me, the relationship between me and my client is absolutely key to the healing process.
Feeling overwhelmed, stressed or anxious? Sometimes the demands of modern life can make us feel out of control. When we are suffering, we tend to look at all that is wrong in our lives. We can lose confidence and make judgements and assumptions about ourselves or our situations that focus mainly on the negative. The coping strategies we adopted in childhood can become our defensive mechanisms in adulthood and we can often find ourselves repeating old patterns of behaviour that don't work but we don't know how to find a way to break the cycle.

I have extensive experience in the area of relationship counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy.
My goal is to help the client to achieve their own personal goals, via individual or couple's therapy. This includes recovery from trauma e.g. adverse childhood events, sexual abuse, violence, bereavement, PTSD, abandonment or any issues that affects ongoing functioning. It also addresses self-esteem, depression, addiction or anxiety/panic attacks that may arise as a result of stress. Indeed stress is the root of much anxiety and physical ailments. As a foundation I offer a sincere and authentic relationship to assist the client with all relationships and future aspirations in their lives. I also offer clinical supervision.
