There are many reasons to engage in therapy. If you have found your way here, I imagine you may be struggling with some part of yourself or with someone in your life. You might be looking for help and support with problems that seem overwhelming. You may have a sense that you are not living the life you want to live and wish to step more confidently forward. Psychotherapy offers you a chance to slow down and step out of your daily life, refocus on your needs and goals, a path of self-development and learning.

I am an experienced, accredited Psychotherapist in private practice since 2011. My focus is seeing the person as unfolding at different stages along life's journey. Sometimes along the way we can be knocked sideways. Failure ,loss ,abuse, relationship issues or bad choices can leave us experiencing stress, loss ,anxiety and depression . Early intervention is essential and my role as psychotherapist is to listen and enable you to gain insight. Any issue when talked about and explored in a supportive non judgemental therapeutic relationship where you are understood and supported will bring about positive change.

Imagine what it would be like to look forward to your weekly therapy session. To meet with a therapist who you feel, really understands you and is with you every step of your journey. Someone in your life who wont judge you for anything you bring but will continue to support you. The therapist you truly deserve. I may be that therapist for you, lets find out. I work from a person centred, humanistic modality, where I recognise you as the expert in your life, not the therapist. working alongside you as you discover your strength and experience your growth, overcoming what is causing you pain or holding you back.

Taking the first step in deciding to attend therapy is often the hardest part, it can be difficult to admit to ourselves that we may need the intervention of another to assist us on this journey. Coming to speak allows an individual to be heard in way that is specific to them, a singular , and not to fit the specifics of ticking the boxes. Speaking about your way of experiencing life and it's difficulties and challenges, can free up a person and allow them to look through a different lens.

I am well aware that life can be a struggle when trying to deal with anxiety, depression, profound sadness, grief, relationship issues, emotional upheavals, stress, long standing hurt or deeply embedded trauma. Sometimes it’s about self exploration. I offer a warm, safe, welcoming and non judgmental space where clients can come and examine how they see themselves in their world; explore unhelpful behavioral patterns and look at how they are in relationship to others and themselves. At all times in the Counselling space, I work from my heart; from a place of compassion and love, with genuine acceptance of the client just as they are

If you build a house with no foundations, what would happen to the house? Most likely there would be a lot of pressure on the frame as it starts to slowly sink, wobble, or collapse over time. This ends up looking like burnout, anxiety, depression, pressure, overwhelm, or struggling in relationships (eg. parenting, partnership, friends). We will sift through what is adding this stress to your life while also collaborating to create strong foundations in your life that will ease the pressure while also allowing you to find fun and joy again. What would it feel like to be able to flow through life again with ease and control?

I have eighteen years experience working with all aspects of the human condition. I have specialised in substance use issues but the core of all issues are for me the relationship with the self. Looking at behaviour patterns, childhood issues, intergenerational trauma and all sorts of relationship difficulties. My theoretical orientation is mainly psychodynamic with a humanistic person centered approach. Giving someone space to breathe, reflect and work together to get more connected to the self.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are accredited members of the main professional associations, mainly the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP). Most Psychologists are accredited members of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement in Ireland, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Ireland. Psychologists have earned a doctoral degree in psychology and many are accredited members of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a doctoral degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the IACP or ICP, they must complete a minimum of an NFQ Level 7 programme with 100 hours of clinical experience and a minimum of 450 hours of post-training clinical experience under clinical supervision.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in Ireland could cost between €50 – €90 when seeing a counsellor and €75 - €120 or more when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The National Counselling Service (NCS) is a government-funded service that provides short to medium term counselling and psychotherapy for free to individuals who have experienced trauma or abuse. The service can be accessed by GP referral or self-referral.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your eircode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the IACP, the ICP, or PSI are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others or when a child is in danger, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
