Taking the first step in deciding to attend therapy is often the hardest part, it can be difficult to admit to ourselves that we may need the intervention of another to assist us on this journey. Coming to speak allows an individual to be heard in way that is specific to them, a singular , and not to fit the specifics of ticking the boxes. Speaking about your way of experiencing life and it's difficulties and challenges, can free up a person and allow them to look through a different lens.

I will accompany you as you gain insight into your feelings, behaviours and concerns. I can also support you in developing healthy coping skills, to enhance your emotional well-being. Counselling is not undertaken with the intention of changing who we are. It's an opportunity to understand yourself fully, so that you can begin to move forward from a position of increased personal insight and self-compassion.

Wherever you are. However you are. You are welcome. Yes, sometimes we just can’t do it on our own and we need help. Therapy is one way to resource yourself to meet some of life’s challenges. Crippling anxiety, overwhelming grief, black depression are sources of deep pain and dark suffering. They can also be as a consequence of early traumatic experiences or negative beliefs we hold about ourselves. To accept where you are is the first step in healing yourself. Hi, I’m Liam and I create a safe place for you to explore your world, where I meet you with compassion and non-judgement in a confidential setting.

Our goal: to help you pursue a simpler, pleasant, more content life.

Individuals attend counselling due to an issue they are experiencing. Allow me to share at this point, that the Latin root meaning of Issue, "is go out, exit" and move forward, to grow. Different meaning from what we are familiar with. Hear the difference. I am fully accredited with the Irish Counsellors and Psychotherapists IACP and I am an experienced Psychotherapist with at least 15 years experience. The emphasis is placed on trusting the process and allowing the progress to unfold for the desired outcome.

I support the client exploring their presenting issues, thought processes, emotions and behaviours that may not be serving them well. Collaboratively, we work through past traumas and life events, which may result in paralysing fears, anxiety, low mood and prove stressful. We work on regulating emotionally, creating new coping strategies, empowering a true sense of self, enabling self- love and self -acceptance. With grief and loss, both living loss and loss through death, we gently explore how grief is living, even though we look at what once was.

I believe that everyone has all the answers to their life struggles but sometimes the answers can be difficult to reach. They might be buried under the day to day stresses or maybe an older experience that makes it difficult for us to employ the necessary tools. In the latter situation, we could find that an impartial, non-judgmental professional can help and support. I have experience in working with a diverse range of clients presenting with depression, anxiety, trauma, sexual abuse, addiction, codependency, attachment and relationship issues, low self-esteem, grief and many others.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
