By looking at the emotional needs and wants I help clients to really understand the complexity of what is underneath the emotions they experience. We can present with a symptom like emotion such as fear, anger or people pleasing. However, when we fully understand where this comes from we become more aware, and with awareness, we then have the ability to make choices on how we want to proceed.

I am both a fully accredited therapist and supervisor in private practice in a purpose built premises with parking and toilet facilities. The 67 bus stop is a 5 min walk in either direction. I work with individuals from age 15 and couples. I offer a flexible range of appointment times and I also facilitate ONLINE THERAPY particularly during our current restrictions. Therapy is an opportunity to enhance the quality of your life. It is a space to explore what feels like a barrier to your best life. It is a collaborative experience where hopefully you are reminded of how you make the choices to direct your life while feeling supported.

My style of counselling is Integrative and Humanistic, allowing me to use art, movement, breathwork and talk therapy to support the client to explore issues arising in their life. My compassionate approach allows me to form a good therapeutic relationship with the client which allows a natural flow to the session. I work with a variety of areas such as identity, low self esteem, anxiety, loss and grief and career change. I work with all cultures, religious backgrounds and belief systems. I listen in a non judgemental way so you, the client can explore ways to be the best version of you.

The initial phone call, usually 30 mins is free. The client may feel up-set and often emotional as they begin to talk about their issues and concerns. I make sure they feel as comfortable as is possible by listening and understanding their problems. In therapy I use Internal Family Systems approach. It works on befriending our internal parts that cause us upset leading to and understanding that these parts have our best interest at heart. This approach works well with any problem especially traumatized parts which we all have. It facilitates inner child healing leading to transformation.

As a person centred art therapist, I believe everyone has the potential for personal growth and development and by using the creative process as a therapeutic tool, you can be gently guided on that journey of self realisation, exploration and discovery. To aid and assist your understanding of mental health issues that present, facilitated in a safe non judgemental space as you journey on path of well-being, enabling your goals to be achieved, meeting your needs in the process. You do not need to have an artistic ability or background, just a willingness to allow the creative process to assist .

Are you finding it difficult to cope or having problems in your relationships? Perhaps you feel overwhelmed by your emotions or you find yourself overthinking? Psychotherapy can help you connect with yourself, make sense of your experiences and find solutions. I believe that life is complex and no two people experience it the same way. Therefore therapy is not a 'one size fits all'. I draw on years of experience as a therapist and I integrate approaches so that the therapeutic space is centred on you and your needs.

As an integrative counsellor, I provide a gentle yet direct approach to counselling, creating an empathic and nurturing environment. This approach allows me to adapt to your unique needs and circumstances. Taking the first step towards attending therapy is often the most challenging, as it can be difficult to admit to ourselves that we may need the assistance of another to embark on this journey. However, I am here to gently support you on your therapeutic path towards achieving your personal healing goals.

Sometimes when struggling with various stressors we often fear reaching out for help. Therapy can support you to process painful experiences; increase your ability to cope day to day, and address long term issues affecting the quality of your life. Are you an adolescent at risk, a family looking for help with coping skills related to conflict, a couple looking to work through conflict or marital issues; have you experienced trauma? I work with complex client needs such as sexual abuse, substance misuse, relational issues, and mental health including other anxiety, emotional and behavioural issues.

I am an accredited therapist (APCP) who works with adults on an individual basis. I work from an Integrative approach where I believe there isn't one therapeutic approach when working with a client. I feel it is important to take into account you as an individual and also your circumstances. Therefore it may be more beneficial to use different approaches to help you explore and cope with your issues or difficulties. I believe each person has the capacity for growth and self actualization in their own lives. I have spent several years working with Carlow and South Leinster Rape Crisis Centre.

We are all capable of solving our own problems and finding our own peace of mind. Sometimes we need to understand why we are feeling, thinking or behaving in a certain way. Counselling is a treatment where each counselling session is a safe and regular space for a person to think and talk about themselves and the world they live in. Life can throw situations our way which may seem unmanageable. My aim as a counsellor is to support each person as they gain an insight and understanding into these difficulties, while also supporting them as they make any changes needed to make themselves feel better.

As a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, I enjoy working with people who suffer from various behavioural or emotional problems, as well as those who seek better relationships, personal growth and a deeper meaning in their lives. I take a holistic approach to well-being, meaning I am interested in how our minds and bodies work together towards our ultimate health or ill-health. I have a particular passion for working with women and empowering the female voice. As a psychologist and mother of two children, I am also well versed in helping others navigate the complicated paths of parenthood!

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
