Sometimes life can just feel out of kilter and we don't know why, or the weight of every day life is heavy. When we feel like this it can be helpful to have someone to talk to who is not already involved and invested in your life. I work across a spectrum of mental health concerns, but have a particular interest in trauma, grief/loss, maternal mental health (in particular crisis pregnancy and miscarriage), addiction, depression, anxiety, low-self esteem and perfectionism.

Are you finding it difficult to cope or having problems in your relationships? Perhaps you feel overwhelmed by your emotions or you find yourself overthinking? Psychotherapy can help you connect with yourself, make sense of your experiences and find solutions. I believe that life is complex and no two people experience it the same way. Therefore therapy is not a 'one size fits all'. I draw on years of experience as a therapist and I integrate approaches so that the therapeutic space is centred on you and your needs.

To me, therapy isn’t just about looking at the problems but also finding the solutions. It’s about learning to take back control of your life so you find your unique road towards self-acceptance, contentment and success. I have a great passion for my profession and I believe that my knowledge and expertise could be useful to those who crave the desire to change but are unsure of the steps to take to achieve this. And while you must walk this path of change on your own, I will support you every step of the way until you will manage it independently.

It is impossible to tell you exactly what your therapy process will be like, as you are unique, with your own experience, strengths and difficulties. Good therapy will be tailored to you and your individual situation. That said, in all models of therapeutic work I will work with you to define your goals and to develop the steps you will take to achieve those goals in therapy. Your therapeutic process will not only focus on your current situation and experiences, but also on the internal patterns that may be contributing to how you are feeling.

Do you notice patterns of behaviours that you are unsatisfied with? Are you having difficulty coping with your current life? I provide a non-judgmental, supportive environment where clients can feel safe in sharing their thoughts and feelings. I have created a space where clients can explore their goals and discuss the actions they will take to live their lives to the best of their ability. With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are dedicated to achieving. I believe that there is no universal approach to therapy.

I believe the answers to our own problems are within us. You are the expert. The narrator of your story. Your experience is unique. Only you know what it is to be you. How it feels. My role is simply one of companion. It is hoped that as you journey along at your own pace you will begin to unravel and understand who you are and why you feel the way you do. This insight has the potential to make sense of your difficulties. To find the light in the dark. To see new roads to travel, better ways to live, and new eyes to see the world. To eventually have the courage to take the road meant for you. To become who you truly are.

Therapy is food for the soul ! You can disclose what you feel comfortable talking about at your own pace in a confidential, safe, private space. Many people come to therapy to help with current struggles or past experiences, but many also attend just to maintain a good mindset. Each person’s life experience is different and as we know sometimes it can be challenging, therefore talking can help to clear our minds, uncover our struggles, and understand our emotions. Therapy can be challenging, but it can also be very rewarding. Everyone deserves to be heard and supported. Looking forward to meeting you :)

Source Counselling & Psychotherapy is founded on the belief that within you is a source of happiness, inner strength and resiliency that can enable you to deal with the pressures and struggles life can present. It is from these many sources that greater understanding of who you are emerges, a key factor in finding ways to deal with issues and problems you experience. Exploring your issues can provide you with a deeper awareness and understanding of the cause of these problems - the source. Knowing the source of a problem is only part of the work.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
