Upon finishing college I thought of the many needa of potential clients. As a result of this I spent a year working in a drug & alcohol addiction centre. Gaining the experience & knowledge necessary to treat people during & after recovery for addiction. I soon discovered that regardless of the presenting issue most clients presented with having experienced some form of trauma. I then went on to study Traumatology & PTSD. Currently working in the therapeutic setting with families of those with disabilities.

My special areas of interest are childhood trauma, attachment issues, relationship difficulties and anxiety/depression.
My approach is collaborative, non-judgemental and warm and my goal is to understand your specific experience and needs. I use a variety of approaches that are person centred, this means that I value you as a human being above all else. I believe that therapy helps us develop an understanding of feelings and emotions, while creating a space for change to happen. It offers the opportunity to break free from old patterns that no longer serve us, and be more self-accepting, and more connected to others. Our problems are unique to us and only we can create the solution that will work for us as individuals.

I have a lot of experience helping people heal from childhood abuse, emotional neglect, relationship difficulties, sexual abuse, bullying, low mood, anxiety, personality difficulties, trauma, PTSD, stress, burnout.
Sometimes you might find yourself being really sensitive and feeling overwhelmed with emotions that are coming out of nowhere, often flying off the handle, or being tearful and upset. You might not be feeling yourself, like you are carrying a huge weight and you don’t know what it is or why. It might be that you feel really tense, and ‘on-edge’ and it’s difficult to relax. It can also be that you feel totally shut-off from others, detached and disconnected, feeling empty and numb. Life has lost its colour. Others constantly feel guilty, find it really hard to say no to others, and live in a constant state of never being good enough.

I treat a variety of common mental health difficulties and life challenges (e.g. mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, complex trauma, relationships issues, stress, low self-esteem, perfectionist traits). Some people aren’t quite sure what’s going on for them, but something just doesn’t feel right. Whatever your struggle is, I want to help you to get your life on track, break out of unhelpful patterns of behaviour, and find meaning and satisfaction in life. I can offer you a safe and non-judgmental space to explore what it is that’s causing you difficulty, and an evidence-based approach to help you to finally move forward.

While I enjoy working with clients facing a wide range of difficulties, I have a particular interest in anxiety, OCD and trauma.
My interest in psychotherapy, spirituality and meditation began after the end of my marriage several years ago, which like many other types of losses, triggered a lot of suffering. Life transition, family and friends losses, the breakup of long-term relationships, stress, anxiety and depression are all part of human suffering. However, we have an innate capability, which we can strengthen, that allows us to navigate and, more importantly, learn from our most difficult life experiences.

I work collaboratively with my clients to address: trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, family conflict, self-esteem, relationship ruptures, legacy burdens/intergenerational trauma.
Perhaps you’re considering therapy and have questions regarding the process or maybe you are searching for a psychotherapist for someone you care about. It may feel like a risk when you open yourself up to ask for help. I want to acknowledge and honour the moment of vulnerability as a strength. Life is challenging and you don’t have to go through it alone.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
