I see clients in Ballybrack, Glenageary and in Sandyford Wellness Centre, Dublin 18. I also provide online therapy by Zoom and Google Meet. I am a trained psychotherapist, with a Masters (MSc) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from University College Cork. The way I work is person-centred, placing you and your life-issues at the centre of therapy. I work utilising a “stress model” from a humanistic & relational framework. This promotes self-awareness for clients and empowers them to identify the causes of harmful stressors, while developing self-care and self-safety practices so as to bring a sense of balance.......

People are all just trying their best, but it is very normal to struggle with life at times. I like helping people who are feeling stuck get unstuck. I like helping people see that they have the power to make something better from their life. I used to be a homebirth midwife, and I find myself drawn to people who are in big life transitions. Or knowing that there is a change needed that maybe is not yet clear. But much happiness comes from learning to truly appreciate what is real in your life today.

Not accepting new clients
In most people's lives there comes a time when they need support to work out long-term issues. Or perhaps they have met with stresses in their relationships or at work. Often we struggle on, relying on family or friends. Sometimes we turn to strategies that worked for us before, but no longer seem to help us with our pain. We may feel depressed, anxious, isolated and unable to see a way out for ourselves. Perhaps we begin to experience the unnerving feeling of a panic attack. Or we may find ourselves overusing alcohol, struggling with food, spending or other addictions.

I believe the relationship between a client and their therapist is the cornerstone of what therapy is about. My approach values the whole person, mind, body, and soul, thoughts, feelings, and emotions. A relationship that is built on trust, honesty, and respect in a confidential space. I use an integrative humanistic approach. My work is primarily grounded on Person-centered therapy, choice theory, mindfulness, and existential therapies. I also work in areas of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Family Systems. My goal is to work together with a client to create a counselling journey that is right for you in total confidence.

I offer a safe heart centred space to help my clients unpack at a gentle pace that suits them. No problem is too small to bring to counselling. Talking things through with a stranger can help find and bring resources and solutions into sight and is therefore "the gift of therapy". I work with clients experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, and relationship problems. Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly to match your requirements. I have a wide range of training and approaches such as choice therapy, Positive thinking, meditation, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, and shamanism.

I have over 25 years of experience in Chinese medicine, and acupuncture treatment for overall well-being. I am a fully accredited psychotherapist, through 4 years of studying counselling and psychotherapy, which enhanced my empathetic understanding of my feelings and others. When Western medicine and philosophy meet Eastern, it allows Mind, Body and Spirit to emerge into ‘ONE’. I believe the change happens when we develop the awareness that we have the capacity “To know, To understand, To act differently”, and know “Imperfection is the Perfection” under a therapeutic relationship between us. Emotional Focused Therapy for Couples.

There are times when our capacity to feel better, recover or move on with things can feel too difficult to do on our own. It can help to talk to someone outside of your family, friends and familiar relationships to begin to understand how you are feeling. Therapy is a process that can help you explore issues relating to challenging or traumatic life experiences. I can support you in re-discovering a sense of how you can relate to yourself and others in a more resourceful and empowering way. Giving yourself permission to accept support for where you are at is often the hardest thing to do and the most courageous.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are accredited members of the main professional associations, mainly the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP). Most Psychologists are accredited members of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement in Ireland, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Ireland. Psychologists have earned a doctoral degree in psychology and many are accredited members of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a doctoral degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the IACP or ICP, they must complete a minimum of an NFQ Level 7 programme with 100 hours of clinical experience and a minimum of 450 hours of post-training clinical experience under clinical supervision.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in Ireland could cost between €50 – €90 when seeing a counsellor and €75 - €120 or more when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The National Counselling Service (NCS) is a government-funded service that provides short to medium term counselling and psychotherapy for free to individuals who have experienced trauma or abuse. The service can be accessed by GP referral or self-referral.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your eircode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the IACP, the ICP, or PSI are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others or when a child is in danger, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
