Clients come to counselling when their normal coping mechanisms are no longer working for them and they are feeling overwhelmed, confused and afraid. It may be due to anxiety in their life, stress in work or relationships, low self esteem or depression. They come looking for clarity, a sense of understanding that they are not alone in what they are feeling and perhaps for practical techniques to manage the conflicting emotions. They also want to be really listened to and not to be judged as they tell their story.
I am an accredited psychotherapist with over 14 years experience working with a wide range of adults. My aim is to help the client be able to name what is affecting them, acknowledge it and then to set about finding ways to help make the issue better. My approach is humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive.
This means I focus on the relationship with the client to provide support and empathy in a safe environment. I also try to help lighten any past issues weighing the client down and furthermore, I help with the client's cognitions of the world to see if there is any faulty thinking that can be adapted to lessen the person's negative thinking.
