The Myth of Monogamy (Book Review)

Reviews the book 'The Myth of Monogamy,' by David Barash and Judith Lipton.

Here's another book for the religious right's bonfire: Authors David Barash,Ph.D., a zoologist at the University of Washington in Seattle, and Judith Lipton, M.D., a Seattle psychiatrist in private practice, make the case against monogamy. Though not opposed to it, the husband-and-wife team compiles a staggering amount of scientific evidence that monogamy is the exception, not the rule, throughout nature. Most of their support comes from research on birds, but they also provide compelling evidence that humans, male and female, find monogamy monotonous.
