A dynamic, creative, playful, and embodied psychotherapy group, using the powerful method of psychodrama. Psychodrama is the oldest form of group psychotherapy, having been developed by world-renowned psychiatrist and social scientist, JL Moreno, in Vienna in the 1920's. Psychodrama is inherently trauma-informed as well as being a transpersonal and existential approach to psychotherapy. We work with the here-and-now encounter between group members, helping participants to make sense of their place in the world. Psychodrama allows people to make profound, creative changes in their lives, in relation to themselves, to others, and to the wider world.

Sessions support you to understand anxiety and prevent it from controlling you and your life through practical strategies, as well as through reflection and guided exploration, as you’re supported to change your relationship with thoughts and emotions, to move towards being more present, and to connect with what really matters to you through committed action, to ultimately move towards an improved quality of life. Sometimes life doesn’t look the way we would like it to. Unexpected events occur that feel difficult to deal with, or we might feel ‘stuck’, with difficult thoughts and feelings getting in the way of living the life we would like to live. Many people have similar experiences and it can be useful to meet others and work together in small groups to overcome challenges. I currently offer small group sessions (5-8 people max) of eight sessions lasting two hours each for (1) women with anxiety and/or low self-confidence, (2) women with autism spectrum condition (ASC).
How should we meditate? Some choose a reliable technique (backed by science), others the technique they are most familiar with. But familiarity doesn't always lead to greater meaning. In a meaningful meditation session, insights trigger mental events you can relate to. When ideas follow a logical approach, better coping options can be considered, and experience is translated into mental skills. Join me every Sunday for a meaningful meditation session. Zoom link will be provided upon request. Hours may change based on availability - please check for updates.

Similarly to the once weekly group members develop an increased awareness of how they experience and are experienced by others. This results in the possibility of changing unhelpful patterns of relating and thereby having more meaningful personal and professional lives and relationships. The increased regularity of the twice weekly setting allows for a noticeably richer exploration of relationship issues, particularly around issues of trust and intimacy. Issues are able to be more thoroughly examined and the added support and challenges in a twice weekly group can speed up the process of change.
I offer long term individual and group analytic psychotherapy and shorter more focused work as well as supervision. As well as my private practice in NW3, I work in the Trauma Unit at the Tavistock Clinic. I have extensive experience working in the NHS in adult psychotherapy and with vulnerable mothers and babies. I have worked with people of different ages and backgrounds with wide-ranging issues since 1998.
Addiction may occur in literary every sphere of life e.g. substances, alcohol, gambling, internet, pornography, food etc. Every addiction is an expensive habit as well as detrimental for personal health, wellbeing and development. Spirituality on the other hand provides the framework of love, compassion and acceptance for uplifting the person and supporting healthy life choices and stable recovery. The group establishes connections providing an effective learning context. Counselling facilitation in this context supports a safe way to successful recovery. This is an online group.

We are all born into a family group, this is were we first learn to relate to others. Our first experiences are also lived in groups: nursery, school, groups of friends. Groups are our natural environment. Our difficulties in many cases are also experienced in groups and these are the natural place to deal with our stresses and anxieties. Group therapy offers a safe place to speak about yourself, your family and other relationships. Conflicts and worries can be explored with others who are going through similar issues.
I work with individuals and groups in private practice. I offer short and long term psychotherapy. I am also available for online sessions.

My primary therapeutic grounding is in Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), an approach to change that’s solution focused, practical and geared towards achieving goals specific to your life circumstances and challenges you feel are holding you back. Over the years, I've done extensive professional training so I tailor my approach to each unique individual. My ideal client is curious, open to discussing and exploring ideas and keen to pursue lasting personal transformation. This a real challenge which takes great courage. Successful therapy requires some degree of trust in the process and collaborative therapeutic alliance.

Choosing a therapist can be a stressful process, and it's difficult to decide which kind of therapy to try. Many people find it helpful to work with a therapist who has trained in more than one therapy, who can switch to a different therapy when needed, and who can tailor sessions according to your needs. You can have a phone consultation with me to discuss what you are looking for and ask questions. 16 years experience in supporting neurodivergent clients (with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia or other difficulties) led me to further training in autism, and specialised CBT and ACT for ADHD and emotional regulation problems.
YANA is a 8 week support and development group for people struggling with anxiety. The group aims to help you feel less isolated, and find new ways dealing with the nervous feelings. It combines Mindfulness and CBT approaches to assist you in developing coping strategies to live your life in a more fulfilled way. The experience of hearing from and being with others, helps to create a confidential and safe place to explore difficult feelings.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in NW8?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, postcode, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counselling is typically less expensive than individual counselling, with each session costing on average between £45 to £60. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from £60 to £150. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your group therapy sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for group therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
