Hi, I am Victoria. Many of us need counselling at some point in our lives, whether that be because of a particular event, because we are struggling with life’s pressures or because we may feel as though we have lost our way. I am here so we can work through these things together. Counselling is a personal and important journey and I would like to be able to support you to find your way, to become more self aware and to make those changes you hope to make.

We often hear the expression “living your best life” - are you living your best life? Many people aren’t. Our lives present us with many challenges and obstacles, especially within the current pandemic. Counselling can help you with the challenges you are currently facing, help you break unhelpful cycles and move on to a more content you. Counselling can also help you to accept the past and allow you to draw a line under past experiences and move forward in a healthier way.

Would you like a safe, confidential space to get things off your chest? Are you a parent/carer who would like a non-judgemental space to explore the pressures of balancing your work and home-life? Would you like to speak to someone who is experienced in neurodiversity and able to adapt sessions to meet your needs? Is life feeling confusing for you? Do you feel overwhelmed and experiencing emotions that you are struggling to process?

Many people who come into therapy with me are brought by a desire for change and growth that comes from deeper self understanding, to live in a way that enables all aspects of their being to find healthy expression. Another way to think about this would be that the work I offer aims to meet the longing for a wholehearted and soul-filled engagement with life, which can sometimes feel out of reach. Psychotherapy usually begins with addressing emotional, mental, relational, behavioural concerns, or challenging circumstances that have recently arisen, or been present for some time.

If you are on this page, you are considering counselling. Seeking counselling and potentially talking to a stranger about your emotions can be incredibly intimidating/daunting but this is a sign that you feel there is a need for change. Through counselling, we can explore what is important to you, at your own pace and work towards enrichment.

My aim for setting up a therapy practice was to provide help to those who are struggling with life's challenges. Do you feel as though something in your life isn't right? Maybe you've found yourself at a crossroads, unsure of where to go next. You might want support with reaching a decision, or facing your past. You might be looking to address relational/behavioural patterns, or want someone to help you cope through a crisis. It might be none of those things. It could be difficult to explain, and others don't seem to understand:- all you know is that you don't want to feel like it anymore, and you want things to be different.

I work with children, young people and their families, often when things are feeling difficult or overwhelming. Some of the reasons families have worked with me include: support to understand and manage feelings of anxiety, depression or frustration; difficulties with emotion-regulation; and difficulties within family relationships, including parent-infant and parent-child relationships.

My name is Dr Sarah Radev and I am an autistic Clinical Psychologist. Being neurodiverse comes with many strengths, but it can also come with certain challenges. I offer a safe, judgement free space to therapeutically work through these difficulties at a pace that suits you, and takes into account all of your individual differences, challenges and strengths. There are many services available for people who are not neurodiverse, and my aim is to offer a service that is specifically tailored for my neurospicy clients, where they can feel understood, and free to take off the mask and be themselves.

Life can be difficult to understand, to manage, to juggle and to embrace. My aim is to work with you to give you a better understanding of yourself. You may have asked “why do I feel the way I feel, why do I think the way I think, why am I the way I am.” Our work together will offer you a safe and supportive space, in a way that works for you, to explore these thoughts and feelings and offer new perspectives, tools and techniques to help adjust to a new way of being.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialised therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
