All enquires through my website please. Most people experience anxiety or depression at some point in their lives and need to cope with pain and confusion. You may feel stuck and unmotivated or need to work through a traumatic experience from your past so you can move on with your life. You might also experience work related stress or be dealing with relationship difficulties. Self-development may also be the reason for seeking therapy. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore and make sense of your difficulties in a safe, non-judgmental environment, to develop your self-understanding and improve your relationships.

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming challenging and stressful. Do you feel like life is a juggling act and it is becoming harder to keep the balls in the air? Believe me it is hard as I too have been there. Maybe you are finding it difficult to cope with what life can throw at us or dealing with feelings of stress, anxiety, depression or any other mental health issue? Perhaps you are trying to cope with a difficult life event or feeling isolated, navigating relationship or work issues, exploring your identity, or if you are just seeking a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space for growth then you are in the right place.

I specialise in the psychotherapeutic support of the parents and carers of neurodiverse children / young people pre and post diagnosis, in particular the support of the parents of autistic girls. As well as having lived experience of autism parenting, I have written and researched extensively around the lived experiences of the parents of autistic girls. The support that I offer encompasses both parental mental wellbeing and offering advice and guidance, whether from first suspicions that your child might be autistic, through the journey to diagnosis, with life in-between and beyond.

Welcome, I am a registered Clinical Psychologist offering high quality, compassionate, therapy, using evidence-based approaches. Many people come to me because they are feeling anxious, dealing with the impact of traumatic or difficult life events, or feeling low, stressed and burned out. These tricky experiences can make us feel stuck...but there is hope. I believe it is important to understand how and why you might be feeling a certain way, but also develop practical ways for you to independently care for your mental health.

Life can be tough, we can be going along quite nicely and then something unexpected turns our life upside down. In order to cope we all need to foster positive resilience, ideally beginning in childhood. Sadly, for many, how we cope today can be traced back to a time when we learnt how to get our needs met, which can be outdated or no longer appropriate as our needs are now completely different. Theses subconscious scripts can be holding you back by causing you negativity, prevent you having good relationships. I can help by providing a confidential space online and the expertise to work in partnership to resolve issues.

I was a client myself twice in my life and I know first-hand how difficult it can be to take that step. However, I also know that therapy can be life-changing because growth can only happen when we push our boundaries and step outside our comfort zone. My role is to be with you as you set sail on this journey. Feelings like sadness, guilt, shame, anger, and anxiety are all too familiar to me and many others because this is where our humanity lies. My role is to help you name those feelings and find ways to navigate them and cope with them. I offer counselling in English, French or Arabic.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
