We are all able to agree that our physical health is variable, but it may be much harder to admit that our psychological health is in constant flux. All too often, we find ourselves buying into the idea of the "stiff upper lip": that "mental health issues" affect only other people - and "weak people", at that! It can be very daunting, therefore, to recognise that we need help and then to take steps to find a professional who will help things improve. I understand those concerns, because I've been there: and I also have experience of the positive effects of psychotherapy - from both sides of the consulting-room!
I work psychodynamically - which means I help clients to understand how events in their past are impacting their lives and then to reprocess things in such a way that they no longer cause issues. (Rather like a doctor might identify an old sports injury, as the cause of a current pain, or a mechanic, a previous owner as the reason for an engine problem.)
I can't wave a magic wand and make all the pain go away - but I can work with you, to help you to build the resilience to deal with what is happening. I will never judge you, or tell you what to do - but I will walk with you, as you learn not to judge yourself and to take the decisions you want, to be able to live your life as you would like.
