Starting therapy can feel daunting. Your therapist will provide a non-judgemental and confidential space to allow you to safely talk about whatever concerns you. The clinician knows how brave it is to begin therapy and will be sensitive to how you are feeling. Together you and your therapist will engage in a process so as to understand whatever difficulties you are facing. You might feel a sense of underlying unhappiness, dissatisfaction, a lack of motivation, or lethargy. Or you may feel anxious which can evoke a sense fear and stuck ness.
If we become stuck for any period of time it can build-up into anxiety and panic. The more a person repeats this cognition, the stronger it becomes. That is how we learn, through repetition, and sometimes it becomes unconscious. This can evoke a sense of confusion and shame, as people often say that whilst they feel anxious or depressed, they don't know why.
We believe that when you are experiencing emotional distress it is important to find time and space to allow yourself to be heard. Your therapist will help you understand what is causing your distress. It is through you talking and the therapist listening that struggles and difficulties can lessen.
