Adolescence is a time of exploring the world and figuring out who we are and therefore relationships are fundamental, in order to grow up, into a happy healthy human being. Breakdown in relationships, such as suffering a bereavement, not getting on with someone close to you, going through a big change, or feeling lonely and isolated can lead to feeling depressed. I have seen great results using this time limited intervention and would like to help more young people get back on track and enjoying life.

Hello I am wondering if you are finding life a bit tough right now. Maybe you are feeling anxious and worried about the future. People I work with often feel that life is getting on top of them, they are not living the life they want - they have lost confidence, sometimes feeling afraid, frustrated, lonely - experiencing a range of emotions that feel difficult to understand and work through. I can help you deal with those big and small ups and downs in life. Feelings of panic, anxiety and stress Perhaps a relationship issue is causing you some concern. Together we can find ways to help you deal with these feelings and emotions

Not everyone has the same approach to life's problems such as personal and psychosexual relationships, grief, loss, bereavement, illness and stress, nor to the typical challenges of family relationships. The context of culture, ethnicity, race, gender, class, sexual orientation and spiritual beliefs influence the ways in which we view the world and how the world views us. I work with couples and families, children, teens and individuals, to resolve issues in a way that is sensitive to their culture and context; and together we develop solutions that are congruent with their values. I like to work from a strengths based orientation

We all have times when we struggle with life, we may have issues with anxiety, depression, behaviours we are uncomfortable with, habits we want to break, discord in relationships or breakdowns in communication. However life impacts you, whether you recognise that something isn't right, feel out of sorts or just feel general dissatisfaction with your life, you may benefit from support to explore what troubles you and identify the changes you need to make. Together we can identify your needs, establish some goals and I can help you take a positive step towards the future you wish for yourself.

I believe that everyone can benefit from being truly seen and heard with empathy and non-judgement, and that counselling can enable you to explore different perspectives, choices and ways of being. Finding the right counsellor for you can provide a safe way to explore, grow and restore. Counselling works not by ‘fixing’ you or telling you what to do, but by helping you to accept and understand yourself, while supporting you in finding your own truths. It facilitates any growth that you choose to undertake. As a client, you decide how your session will proceed, working at your own pace and in your own way.

I offer professional yet down to earth counselling, allowing you to explore life's difficulties (whatever they may be) and find a way forward that’s right for you. Talking really helps. When we’re overwhelmed, confused or feel that something isn’t right with us, talking to someone independent, who will listen with sensitivity and without judgement, can really help bring awareness and enable personal change.

People usually contact me around issues of embodiment - meaning they are either overwhelmed by physical, emotional and psychological pain or the opposite - numb and cut-off from life. I have specialist training to work psycho-somatically. I support people working through complex trauma and dissociation. Associated with this are day-to-day issues in relationships arising from adaptations to trauma through life. As clients experience themselves as more connected/embodied their focus often shifts to creative self-expression and how to maintain aliveness in a world that often does not support its expression.

I understand that it can be hard to reach out for therapy, especially when you may be finding life tough at the moment. Or perhaps you are in a better place and have decided that you want to explore aspects of your life. Either way, please do contact me to discuss your needs. In therapy sessions I would work with you to process your past so that you can see how it impacts the present. For many there is the need to grieve for what has been lost, whilst giving the opportunity to identify and embrace your true inner self. You would strengthen ‘Adult’ you, freeing yourself to embrace life.

I am passionate in helping clients to take the right steps for them. I support you, to make a difference or find an acceptance in everyday life. I work with my clients in exploring the difficulties fears re experiencing and we work to gain an understanding of thoughts and feelings. Their emotional disturbance can be discussed and put in to perspective to help make changes to the unhealthy thought or behavioural patterns. Sometimes, addressing where the negative beliefs have originated from, helps to find the positive changes and overcomes the difficulties. Giving my clients a new awareness, growth and belief.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
