A little time spent in this way, to undertake regular counselling, psychotherapy, can bring many rewards - for yourself, and for those you are close to.
When life gets tough it can be so hard to know just what to do to put things right. Feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, difficulties within our relationships - these things are not always easy to change on our own, especially for the longer-term. I understand that. As a professional Counsellor and Psychotherapist I believe that counselling can help you to make sense of things. It can make a real difference to how you feel, how you act, and is a big step forward. Counselling is there for you, no matter what the problem. Simply put, it is a practical way to make your life better.

I work in a person-centred way with clients 12 and above. I have experience working with a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, self-harm, self-esteem related issues, trauma and abuse.

I’m a higher accredited professional based in Ayrshire. I have worked with individual adults from many backgrounds since 2020. I offer a sincere, therapeutic opportunity to discuss whatever is troubling you. Therapy is a private conversation, away from daily expectations and assumptions. This will feel quite different to styles of therapy that use worksheets or set protocols. The steady, regular setting helps you be sincerely inquisitive about what is going on. People often come to therapy when their usual ways of coping aren’t working. It’s about emotional healing, self-understanding and personal change.

I offer adult psychology sessions and specialise in male, LGBTQIA+ and children's mental health as well as providing clinical supervision and consultation sessions for parents/schools to increase understanding of behaviours.
Hello and thank you for looking into my profile. It can be challenging finding the right therapist amidst a sea of warm faces and shiny profiles full of experience. However, I firmly believe that like any relationship, the therapeutic one needs to feel like a 'good fit' too. This outlook forms the ethos of my therapy practice as a counselling psychologist where I work in collaboration with a client to bring change through the healing properties of a relationship. It is my belief that a supportive, accepting relationship allows for deeper self exploration and long-lasting change.

Therapy isn’t just for when things are falling apart; it’s for anyone who wants to navigate life’s challenges a little more smoothly. My approach is collaborative and adaptable, ensuring that the therapy we engage in is tailored specifically to meet your needs and goals. I have years of experience supporting people facing difficult and life changing circumstances including diagnosed mental health conditions. However, I believe in working with individuals rather than focusing solely on disorders or diagnoses, recognising the uniqueness of every person’s experience.

Are you are here because you have important things to discuss but nowhere to express them? Does being you feel difficult? Do you long for connection but struggle with being in contact? Perhaps it is confusing to be asked how you are or what you need? Life may feel overwhelming just now? Do you struggle with belonging? Possibly everything changed around you and left you feeling lost and uncertain? You are not alone in these feelings and they don't have to define you. I offer you the space to speak out the thoughts and feelings that seem too much to talk to anyone about, you can say what you need to and be heard without judgement.

I'm Barry, a counsellor and qualified CBT therapist from Glasgow. Before becoming a therapist, I spent 15 years as a youth and community worker, developing a deep understanding of people's challenges. I retrained to help individuals make deeper and more meaningful changes in their lives - Sometimes life gets difficult. Our circumstances, thought processes, and past experiences can cause great distress. Sometimes, we reach a point where our usual ways of coping no longer serve us and may even keep us stuck in that distress.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
