Originally from Manchester, I now live in Glasgow. I started my counselling training in London on Goldsmith University’s Graduate Certificate in Humanistic & Psychodynamic Counselling, before completing the University of Strathclyde’s MSc, Counselling & Psychotherapy. At Strathclyde I trained in Person-Centred Therapy and this forms the basis of my practice. I have experience working with a wide variety of people, I’m particularly familiar with autism and neurodiversity, and I work with all kinds of issues including depression and anxiety, as well as those vague feelings of just not being what you ought to be.

I trained in three primary models - CBT, Psychodynamic and Humanistic approaches.
Hello and welcome. If you are reading this, you are likely feeling in a stuck, difficult or distressing place in your life. We all bring a unique history and mind-set to the life difficulties we encounter. These will have given us strengths to help manage problems, but sometimes we need to discover new ways we might feel, think or act. I think of my specialism as 'stuckness' - whether in emotions, relationships or unhelpful behaviours - which is often expressed in terms such as: anxiety, depression, stress, fear, trauma, low self-esteem, sleep problems, bulimia and binge eating, adjustment to loss, illness & major life changes.

Trained in the person-centred approach (non-directive, non-analytical), this humanistic style is at the heart of all I do.
Hello, and thanks for looking at my profile. I’m an accredited therapist with over 15 years experience, and wholly comfortable in dealing with a range of issues, from trauma to depression, from abuse to anxiety. I’ve been described by clients as friendly, easy to talk to and empathic. For me, the most important element in therapy is whether you feel you can trust me - and I know this is not always easy. You’ve likely been hurt and perhaps a little wary and weary of people. I’m not going to “fix” you, I can’t! Though the good news is, by working collaboratively, you absolutely can heal the wounds you carry, of that I have no doubt.

I work predominatnly using psychodynamic and humanistic traditions, however I can include somatic practices to release trauma stored in your body.
Do you feel stuck? Struggle with addiction, anxiety, shame or overwhelm? Have experiences of abuse, sexual violence or unhealthy patterns in relationships? Do your past experiences impact on your wellbeing today? Do you need support establishing boundaries and healthy coping mechanisms? Counselling can help with all of these issues; I offer a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Therapy helps to process and integrate the unresolved and unconscious aspects of yourself, so you can return to a sense of wholeness and wellbeing. It increases the control you have over your emotions and a sense of freedom in your own life.

A BACP reg, Integrative Therapist, trained in Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic approaches to therapy. I'm also undertaking an MA in Anthropology because my approach considers the impact of evolutionary psychology, cultural, and socioeconomical influences. How I work with clients is also underpinned by feminist, gender and queer theory. My aim is to facilitate a space for individuals to talk and explore problems and pain, but also heighten awareness and understanding about the blocks that are maintaining their sense of stagnation. By making what is unconscious conscious we begin to create an effective way forward.

My therapeutic approach has been influenced by integrative, humanistic, cognitive behavioural, applied behaviour analysis, meditation, mindfulness-based, psychodynamic therapy, ISTPD etc.
I was born and raised in multicultural societies all my life. Living in several different countries on 3 different continents (United Arab Emirates, Canada, Pakistan, Wales and England) has given me unique knowledge about culturally adapting therapy. It has also taught me to understand and work with many different kinds of people. I believe in building a strong therapeutic relationship with the client to create a safe and comfortable space to address and potentially alleviate psychological trauma. I have extensive experience adapting contemporary therapy and counselling and tailoring it to unique cultural nuances.

With 20 years' experience, I am a leading authority in marriage, couple and relationship counselling. I have had the pleasure and privilege of helping countless couples resolve their differences and re-establish an emotional connection. I am passionate about my work and the changes I help to facilitate. When you’re having a relationship or marital problems, it’s natural to want to talk about it. Unfortunately, turning to those around you isn’t always possible or the best option. What you really need is an independent ear — someone who can view your relationship without bias and who won’t take sides.

I believe that each person is unique and the expert of their own lived experience. As an integrative counsellor, I understand there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Instead, I will work collaboratively with you to identify your preferences and goals, drawing on different theories and methods that are most helpful for you. I take a strengths-based approach, identifying and building on your existing skills and resourcefulness to bring about change. I will seek to co-create a respectful therapeutic relationship that provides the safety you need to explore the experiences that brought you to counselling.

Humanistic Counsellors

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
