Hello, I am Dr Calum Rankin (Clinical Psychologist) and provide evidence-based therapies to support clients to work through distressing effects & imbalances - often resulting from trauma/stress. Effects may include: Anxiety, low mood or shame with little space for safeness, pleasure or self-worth; distressing memories with little space to process what has happened; self-doubt, chronic people pleasing, or feeling lost with little space to explore own needs and values; withdrawn from self and others with little space to connect and engage in meaningful activity; self-blame and criticism with little space for self-compassion.

Life can be difficult to manage at times, especially when stressors build up, or we experience difficult events. Our early life experiences may also impact our view of ourselves, our behaviour, and our mood. This can prevent us from feeling at our best. Sometimes we may not know why we feel down or worried. Psychological talking therapy acts to increase understanding of why a person may feel a certain way and offers approaches to improving mood and mental wellbeing. Foremost, my aim is always to create a respectful and supportive environment where you will be listened to, and together we can work towards your therapy goals.

I particularly enjoy working with all anxiety based disorders and depression and feel I can help you make a positive change in your life.
Everything starts with a thought - this is what Cognitive Behavioural Therapy bases it's theory on and how I can help you to overcome your current issues. Motivation to change is important in therapy and you have started the process by looking here to see what is on offer. It can be overwhelming - just like your thoughts, together we can break it down bit by bit working from past to present or present to past, we will decide on this together.

If you are struggling with a particular fear, phobia, anxiety issue or habit that is holding you back in life, do not hesitate to get in touch and arrange an initial consultation.
As a Professional Hypnotherapist, Life Coach, Mindfulness & Breathing Coach, NLP Practitioner and Personal Trainer I very much believe in a holistic approach - supporting clients to improve their overall mental, physical and cognitive wellbeing. In my work as a coach and therapist, I support clients who have been struggling with their physical and mental health - tapping into their subconscious mind to help them overcome the fears, habits, addictions or patterns of behaviour that have been holding them back, enabling them to become the best version of themselves. Within this process, hypnotherapy is a central transformative tool.

My skills as Cognitive Behavioural Therapist include proficient assessment of individuals cognitive and behavioural patterns, formulation and implementation of tailored treatment plans, effective communication to build therapeutic rapport, and utilising evidence-based techniques for anxiety and depression, and various mental health issues.
Our journey through life can be rough at times, and when that happens it’s healthy to get a little support. It can be overwhelming to do everything alone, so taking a moment to express ourselves to a professional and empathetic CBT therapist can make a great difference in our lives. My effectiveness as a therapist stems from empathetic listening, genuine compassion, and a non-judgemental attitude. The ability to establish a trusting therapeutic alliance creates a safe space for clients to explore their thoughts and emotions.

For people struggling with mild to moderate anxiety, I have a Neuropsychologically Informed Anxiety Course starting 1 July 2024.
Most clients come to me after they have searched for an answer, sometimes for years. The level of frustration is huge, and the ongoing problem is overwhelming. My extensive experience has yielded remarkable success, with approximately 70% of my clients achieving a significant reduction in their anxiety levels within as few as four to ten therapy sessions. My method is a neuropsychologically-informed anxiety therapy developed over the years of working with anxiety clients. It is innovative and effective. Don't hesitate to get if you would like a free 15-minute introduction.

We all experience emotional pain; as an infant, a child, a teenager, a parent and an adult. Whether it’s in response to life events (e.g. loss, trauma, moves), transitions (e.g. to adolescents, as a parent, retirement), adjustment to ill health (e.g. cancer, chronic illness, injury) or life in general (e.g. long term low mood or anxiety). Accepting that we need help and support can be hard and daunting. Getting the right help is important and can teach you how to live a fulfilling life.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, grief, and have experience with many other mental issues or difficult situations.
We all face difficult times throughout our lives and sometimes we feel stuck. Seeking help is a good indication of wanting to improve. Working together we will look for ways to overcome the obstacles and find emotional balance again. In therapy, I use an integrative approach, which involves the use of a variety of methods in my practice. These include person-centered, solution-focused brief therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy, among other approaches.

Maybe your struggling with anxiety, depression or bereavement; with relationships in your personal life or at work; with alcohol, drugs or a challenging behaviour; just feeling sad and wondering where your life is going: or are worried about your sexuality and would like to talk to someone who is not there to judge.
Sometimes we reach a point in our lives where we "get stuck" or find it hard to move on from difficult thoughts, feelings or behaviours. I know because I have been there too. But I believe we all have the capacity to self-heal, change and grow. And if you are reading this, you may wish to start your own journey. Why not begin that now? I offer a safe space to talk through your problems of living and, although working face-to-face with most clients in the Glasgow area, am certified to work safely and ethically in online, having completed NCS and ACTO-accredited training. My qualifications include an MSc in Pluralistic Counselling.

I work with anxiety, low mood, depression, confidence and an array of difficulties.
It can often be a bit of a struggle to take that first step into making contact with a therapist, and it’s important that everyone who approaches my practice is treated with respect and honesty. I work with those who are experiencing a wide range of difficulties and situations. Counselling allows us to explore and understand ourselves and work towards new ways of coping while improving our overall wellbeing in an environment where we feel safe and supported.

We all have times in life when things can feel challenging and overwhelming, when we might feel anxious or low. This might relate to issues at work, relationships, family dynamics or ill health and bereavement. It can be helpful at times like these to take support from those we are close to, but it can also be helpful to talk to someone outside our immediate support to help us get a fresh perspective on what is going on and how we might begin to address things. This is where counselling can help.
