I also have an interest in helping those with issues of abuse, bullying and especially infertility (male and female).
Life is overwhelming at times. It’s hard to feel you are dealing with it alone. Every journey begins with a first small step. I hope to be able to help you through difficult times to see change and a way ahead. Finding the inner strength to cope can make all the difference. You have the power within you to find the best you and you deserve to. You are the only person who knows your life, challenges, self , feelings and emotions. Don’t struggle in silence. I will be there with and for you each step to hear and listen to what you want and need. You are in control of each session.

Navigating life can be difficult at times, particularly when faced with significant life events and challenges that throw us off course. While most of us are aware of the importance of looking after our physical health, we often take our mental health for granted, assuming it will look after itself. Coping with everyday stressors over a prolonged period can leave us feeling physically and emotionally exhausted and at risk of burnout. If any of this resonates with you, speaking with a counsellor or Psychotherapist is a good first step in taking care of your physical and mental wellbeing.

I am an experienced psychotherapist working with people of all ages, to help them towards finding a more fulfilling way of life. My style of working is based on the building up of a trusting and open relationship between us, which is the basis for all our therapeutic work. I believe our experiences as children, whether good or bad, affect us throughout our lives; and by being given the time and space to 'tell our story', we develop more insight into why we are the way we are. These insights then guide us towards finding ways to change what we want to change, and value those qualities in ourselves that are beneficial.

I'm a HCPC registered clinical psychologist, accredited EMDR practitioner and am Level 1 IFS (Internal Family Systems) trained. My career spans over 2 decades in both the NHS and independent sector. My main focus is on helping people heal from childhood trauma and become their best selves. I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent individuals, who have often experienced more than their fair share of these. Although my main modalities are EMDR and IFS, my broad training enables me to work flexibly by drawing upon the best psychological theory and models for your circumstances and personality.

Do you feel overwhelmed or anxious? Is it all getting too much at times? Do you feel stuck but don’t know how to change? It can help to have someone impartial to talk to who can help you through difficult times and give you some space to deal with whatever is causing your distress. This is where therapy can help. I believe people seek therapy because they want to make a change in their lives. This can be scary, but having felt overwhelmed and anxious at times myself, I hope to be able to offer a supportive, calm, safe environment for you to explore your issues and work towards the best solution for you.

Seeking counselling can feel like a big step. Perhaps a confusing one. Let me tell you a little about myself so that you can decide if I am the right counsellor for you. I have a COSCA accredited Diploma in Person Centred counselling meaning that I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. I have a creative, eclectic approach and can bring other models into the counselling room where appropriate such as CBT, small world, gestalt and even music. At the moment I offer on-line and telephone counselling, however, post pandemic would also offer outdoor walking therapy.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
