Managing daily commitments and juggling mental and physical health, while trying to enjoy life on top of that, is a lot at the best of times. Especially then when issues arise, living the life you want can feel near impossible. These periods in life are too often related to more “obvious” things such as life events and illness. However, they can also be about more “subtle”, yet very real and common experiences such as sadness and discomfort of where you are in life, how you feel about yourself, and unresolved past issues. Whatever the challenges, I believe that a safe and non-judgemental therapy space may help you navigate them.

What if. Two words that send your mind down a well-worn path. Words and images that pop into your head at any moment and no matter how hard you try to push it away you find yourself stuck; thinking, feeling and doing the same thing over and over. Maybe it’s reliving the past, maybe it’s worrying about the future, or feeling you need to do something right now or something bad will happen. “What if” is hard to live with. But when your mind is stuck in the “what if’s” your brain is telling you there is something you need to figure out, something you need to rebalance.

Are you struggling with substance or alcohol use, trauma and/or despair? Utilising my neuroscience and addictions academic and professional background, I will support you to not just survive but regain control of your life one day at a time. My approach aims to go beyond only listening to the issues you may have by using analysis and solutions to give the support you need. While this approach is based on you gaining more knowledge about yourself, I also highly value patients being as comfortable as possible in the sessions as well.

I ultimately believe that therapy is about developing a relationship that fosters trust, empathy, and collaborative meaning-making. Facilitating an environment where a client can become curious about themselves, where they can test and probe language in order to give voice to their own unique experiences—this is the underlying spirit of the practice that I wish to engage with my clients. Therapy is relational, but this is not just a matter of relating to others, but of discovering in what ways one relates to themselves.

Life can be challenging and is perhaps leaving you wondering what to do next. Feeling anxious, with low self esteem and depression around relationship troubles, grief, loss and traumatic experiences. Situations in life that perhaps you feel are needing some time and space to work through in order to reach some deeper understanding and achieve a fresh perspective for moving forward.

Just Human Therapy is a humanist, feminist, LGBTQ+ affirming online counselling service based in Scotland. Going to therapy can feel tough, so I aim to make it as approachable as possible. Often this isn't a quick fix, but an explorative, collaborative process to come back to who you are and what you need. If you're struggling with low mood, lingering trauma affects, or obsessive worry, I can support your steps forward.

The core conditions of Therapy are congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy. In other words, a genuine space to be yourself and have someone understand what you are experiencing. Within therapy, you should experience a safe place to express exactly what you are feeling and not be judged upon those feelings. Therapy should be what you need it to be for you.

When you encounter difficult times in our day to day lives it is helpful to be able to talk these through with someone who is trained and objective. To help you explore the issues that matter to you, bringing insight and understanding to enable you to find your way through problems and dilemmas.

People usually come to therapy when they feel that they no longer have the ability to deal with the difficulties they are experiencing, or maybe when they identified a pattern in their behaviour that creates suffering, when many emotions or thoughts come at the same time and make it impossible to cope with them, when they want to learn about themselves and get deep down to get a better relationship with oneself, when the previous ways of coping and support by friends and relatives are not enough to offer them the solutions and relief they seek. Either the reason to come to therapy, it's valid because it's your own.

Working online and where possible face to face I seek to establish a safe space where you are able to explore those challenges in your life that keep you from moving forward or from leading the life that you aspire to have. "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." - Viktor Frankl
