I also completed specialist post qualification training in CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) & and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing).
You may be considering therapy to address specific difficulties such as depression, the impact of trauma, or difficulties in relationships with others, or you may have a wish for personal growth. Therapy recognises the importance of our experiences and our relationships or contact with others and our efforts to manage these. It offers the opportunity to gain an understanding of ourselves, of how we think, feel, behaviour & relate (including with ourselves) & consider change. After almost 30 years of working as a therapist in the NHS I moved into independent practice.

I am a CBT therapist and I can help you if you are struggling with depression, anxiety, low self esteem, relationship problems, addictions and many more. Maybe you would like to cope with your emotions better or make decisions more consciously and live with less fear? Maybe you want to be more compassionate or more self- confident, or think about how to reach out for what you consider important and valuable? If you have decided to reach for therapy, it may mean that you are already tired of avoidance and anger, and you feel that you want to look at your problems from a different perspective and learn new skills.

As a CBT therapist, we work together in the present to help solve your issues.
Bu Therapy works with YOU. You are, after all, the expert with what is going on in your life today. Together we will work on areas that might be affecting your life and what you would like to change. CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) looks at the present rather than the past and identifies negative or maladaptive thinking styles that make you see things differently and out of focus. I will work with you in a collaborative manner so we can correct this “blurred view” of life and bring clarity, focus, and direction back into your life, and “together we can come out of the darkness and into the light".

If you have a Christian faith, I integrate Biblical truths with cognitive, behavioural, creative and other therapeutic tools.
I don’t know if you have ever had the opportunity to share your story where someone really listens. I mean really listens, wanting to know you, your story, your ups and downs. Where nothing is off limits. Space to speak what maybe you’ve never spoken before. Sitting in the counsellee seat is not always easy and opening up to someone you do not know can be daunting. I know that taking that first step requires courage and I would love to walk with you on your journey.

The nature of modern life can often be overwhelming. Many people feel anxious, depressed, or lost in the world. This might be because of any number of reasons, such as family or personal relationships, childhood experiences, work or lifestyle. Some of the reasons may be unknown, which can be difficult in itself. Whatever you are struggling with, I believe counselling can provide the opportunities for healing and growth and can help you process and explore the challenges that life brings.

I work with a person centered approach as well as including elements of CBT, mindfulness, Hypnotherapy, relaxation techniques and Aromatherapy treatments.
I believe that it's important for an individual to find the right counsellor, as one counsellors method may not suit all. I therefore offer my initial consultation at a reduced rate. The initial consultation is not only an opportunity for the counsellors to find out more about the client but also for the client to find out more about the counsellor, giving both the opportunity to discover if a suitable rapport can be built, creating an appropriate environment for counselling to take place.

As a CBT therapist I am passionate about how the therapeutic alliance can help a client to explore their feelings about the difficulties they are experiencing in life. I believe that by providing a safe, calm and relaxing space, talk therapy can play a vital role in improving a client's mental health. Together, I work with my clients to identify how problems manifest themselves, put these findings into perspective by guiding them through a process working towards setting new goals, adopting new coping strategies and providing them with the relevant tools to continue to work on improving their mental health.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
