Facing the day with a niggling sense of confusion, unease or sadness will affect everything around you, it limits your ability to engage and really be in the moment. These feelings may be linked to a past event in your life, a situation you are currently in or you may be unclear as to why you feel this way. What is important is that at the centre is you. Often, we know we need to prioritise ourselves better, but maybe we do not know how to, we are unsure what we need and are hesitant to ask for this. Are you eager to find out why you respond the way you do? Why you think the way you do at times?

Your confidence and self esteem begin to grow and it is always a privilege to observe when it occurs.
My name is Marion and I am a counsellor and psychotherapist, with a background in nursing. Considering therapy can feel extremely daunting especially if you are already feeling low mood, anxiety or out of sorts. I can offer you a safe and confidential space where we can collaboratively explore what's keeping your problems going. I am currently working as a psychotherapist in the third sector delivering therapy to clients with a wide range of psychological difficulties. I deliver predominantly CBT, however depending on your needs I will integrate other approaches, one being compassion focused therapy (CFT).

Life can be really difficult at times, so it's understandable if you've been feeling anxious, low or struggling to make yourself a priority. I believe everyone should see just how worthy they are as people and that they absolutely deserve happiness. Coming to therapy is a big step and its a difficult process to change life-long habits and navigate your emotions, so I will provide you with a safe and calm space that's free of judgement to work together and help you achieve the goals you have to bring balance back into your life.

I work with clients with a wide range of presenting issues, from low self esteem and relationship problems, to survivors of sexual abuse/traumas.
I believe that the most important relationship we will have over our lifetime is the relationship that we have with ourselves. Throughout our lives we can come to conclusions about ourselves and others that cause us to feel insecure with who we are and around others. My job as a therapist and life coach is to provide a talking space for you to figure out what is holding you back from achieving the relationships and lifestyle you deserve. The more we understand who we really are, the easier it becomes to truly and deliberately create the life we desire.

Together we can identify and challenge thinking patterns and styles and build on the resilience you already possess. Therapy can provide you with the strategies you need to help build a more positive future.

Self Esteem Counsellors

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
