Life is made up of challenges, some are easy for us to coordinate, others seem to be harder to overcome. We are all products of our lived experiences and have challenges that are unique to us as individuals. There are so many things that impact us in the now that stem from our past experiences of life. Not all experiences may seem to be important, however, each day we have lived has given us an experience which has been either positive or negative. As unique individuals our needs are so important and I will offer a safe, non judgmental space to share your thoughts.

Have you ever thought, "why do I act like this? Why do I think this way? I wish I didn't!" Perhaps you're fed up with feeling anxious or depressed, and are ready for things to change. You are not alone in feeling this way, but it's not always easy to discuss personal issues with friends or family. I help my clients discover who they are. Exploring how the past influences the present can help you understand why you respond the way you do, and why you might experience anxiety or depression. This is not about managing symptoms but addressing the underlying causes - you don't want to just feel better, but stay better!

Sometimes life's difficult. Whether it’s an overwhelming crisis, or a slow realisation that things aren't right, we can often end up feeling stuck or that life isn’t what we intended. That’s when counselling can help. As a psychodynamic counsellor, I believe our past experiences often have an effect on our present-day life and relationships, sometimes causing us to get stuck in unhelpful patterns. By working through some of those experiences in counselling it can help us understand how they might be affecting us now and use those insights to make positive changes.

My diploma is in somatic counselling but I integrate it with psychodynamic and person-centered (rogersian) theories and techniques.
What happened to us, doesn't have to define us. The narrative of our issues can be transformed in something different. A healing story that can give you empowerment and freedom. Maybe you are dealing with anxiety, depression, anger. Maybe you are looking for happiness or you feel you are lost. Or maybe, you still don't know what's missing. Regardless, I understand it's important for you to know how to cope, where you want to go in your life and what really matters to you. Finding and/or redefine your personal story, that fits your own true self, may give you the answers you are looking for.

I was trained at Edinburgh University in both the person centred and psychodynamic traditions.
I believe that a deep, equitable, non-judging and trusting relationship, between two people is at the heart of all successful therapy. In the words of E.E. Cummings, ‘It takes courage to grow and become who you really are’ I have found that growing and developing a sense of who we truly believe we are, in the relation to our past, ourself, our families, friends and society is a life long endeavour. It is my belief that it helps us when we can practice self-love, to raise our self-esteem and to realise that we are deserving of love and respect. That each and every one of us is more than good enough.

I use an integrative and pragmatic approach, where I pull from different therapeutic modalities (CBT, ACT, Psychodynamic, Narrative, Existential) to help you achieve your current goals.
So often our difficulties make us feel stuck, bound in place. Sometimes we can see we are caught in a loop, but don't know how to get free. Or we know what to do, but just can't seem to do it. And sometimes we don't even know what is making us feel stuck and where to start. Problems with our health, mood, traumatic experiences, changes to our life circumstances such as our employment or living arrangement, relationships, achievements, habits- any of these can make us feel stuck. Even good things such as weddings or promotions can be a stressor that gets us feeling this way.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on the unconscious (those things outside of our awareness).
Cognitive behavioural therapist and psychodynamic psychotherapist with over 7 years experience working in mental health services for the University of London - - I trained in two very different styles of therapy because people come to therapy for many reasons, and I wanted my work to embody the breadth of what therapy covers, from the evidence-based and goal-directed, to the creative and mysterious.

My approach is integrative, mostly psychodynamic, but with existential qualities too.
Not feeling fulfilled? Stress and anxiety getting in the way? Shame around past events or the present perhaps? Maybe these affect your relationships, family, work or generally your self esteem. Importantly, neither searching the internet nor self help books have been enough, and you need a human relationship. Someone who will listen to you without judgement, and who will attend to you and help you process your sometimes overwhelming feelings. Equally, you may be looking for a psychotherapist to work with by way of self development.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
