As an Accredited Play and Creative Arts Therapist and teenage counsellor with experience as a children and families social worker previously, I recognise that many young people experience the stresses of life in different ways and that sometimes events and subsequent feelings may become overwhelming and cause anxiety or a sense of isolation. This can then have a knock on effect to other aspects of life such as relationships, engagement with school work and own sense of identity and self worth. I understand their need for a sense of respite and an opportunity to explore experiences or confusions in a safe and non-judgmental place.

I’ll help you make connections to understand current and past experiences. I can bring different perspectives to your situation and help identify ways of coping. I will tailor therapy to your unique needs and preferences, acknowledging your individuality, strengths, and experiences. Most of my experience has been working with people who have experienced abuse, trauma, neglect, discrimination, or adversity. I’ve listened to and supported them in understanding their feelings, improving self-belief, feeling less anxious, improving their mood, finding ways to relax, asserting boundaries, and doing the things they’ve held back from.

We may all experience distress at some point in our lives. Maybe you feel that you struggle to keep on top of things; think you are 'not good enough'; struggle in relation to others; feel down; lack confidence; worry; or are stuck due to disturbing memories. Distress presents in numerous ways and how we deal with it can be dependent on our experiences. Many experiences are out of our control. If you are having difficulties with emotions, thoughts, behaviours or relationships (maybe even a combination), you may be at a point where you are thinking about change and need some help achieving this. We can explore your hopes together.

My aim is to create a safe, non judgemental, compassionate space in which to explore your problems, enabling you to gain a better understanding of your difficulties. I believe it is important to look at the roof of your issues to try and gain the necessary insight to help change your mindset or any patterns of behaviour that are troubling you.

The most important aspect of success in counselling is the relationship between us. I tailor the approach to your needs in collaboration with you so that ultimately you can become your own therapist, by applying new skills and techniques to determine positive patterns of thinking and behaving. I understand that coming for therapy can be a bit scary or daunting, even if you have been before, meeting someone new can be challenging especially if you’re feeling vulnerable or out of sorts. Choosing to come for therapy is about caring for and prioritising your own needs, and allowing yourself time and space to think things through.

I believe in having a holistic approach when referring to someone’s wellbeing and recognising each person as an individual. What helps one person may not help another. I do believe we all need a variety of good resources that we can turn to. These resources should be diverse enough for you to use wherever you are and whenever you need something. Whether you are struggling with trauma, bereavement, depression or existential difficulties, the biggest resource you have is truly knowing yourself and listening to your inner voice and developing a sense of peace within.

My method is a neuropsychologically-informed anxiety therapy developed over the years of working with anxiety clients. It is innovative and effective. Many of us experience some kind of struggles and challenges in our lives However it’s when these struggles begin to affect our ability to cope and function daily that they become a problem. I would love to be able to support you through these difficult times and work on these challenges, giving you practical tools and techniques that will empower you and support you to face these struggles within a welcoming, safe and supportive space. I work with the CBT model, exploring how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are connected and highlighting how by making even the smallest change can make a huge difference to a person’s life
