I’m an integrative therapist meaning I draw on different modalities including Person-centred, Psychodynamic, Existential, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), depending on the individual needs of the client.
I am an experienced and professional Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a first class honours degree and full accreditation with the IACP & BACP. I am also a part-time Psychotherapy Lecturer. Over the past number of years, I have worked as a Psychotherapist both home and abroad, and have had the pleasure of supporting clients from all over the world both in person and through online therapy. There are no rules as to what you can bring to a therapy session but some common issues include anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement, sexuality, family dynamics, health problems, relationship issues, addiction, abuse, and trauma.

I use an integrative approach with a social psychology lens, drawing from the psychodynamic and existential theories and CBT techniques, to provide a confidential space for you to explore your life experiences and losses, begin to process them, increase self-awareness, insight and understanding as well as coping skills.
People usually come to therapy because they are in distress, grieving or dissatisfied with certain aspects of their lives and want to address this. Facing change or loss and allowing yourself to be vulnerable can be daunting. I am committed to supporting you through your journey, providing safety, warmth, empathy and consistent reliable support.

Fascinated by the existential questions of identity, freedom and responsibility, my work confirms the human need to reflect and interpret.
A BACP reg, Integrative Therapist, trained in Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic approaches to therapy. I'm also undertaking an MA in Anthropology because my approach considers the impact of evolutionary psychology, cultural, and socioeconomical influences. How I work with clients is also underpinned by feminist, gender and queer theory. My aim is to facilitate a space for individuals to talk and explore problems and pain, but also heighten awareness and understanding about the blocks that are maintaining their sense of stagnation. By making what is unconscious conscious we begin to create an effective way forward.

I use an integrative approach, drawing from the psychodynamic and existential theories, to provide a confidential and safe space for you to explore your emotions and life experiences, and start to understand your feelings and why you may be feeling lost or confused about something in your life that you'd like to change.
People often looks for therapy because they noticed they need to change something. Embracing change and allowing yourself to be vulnerable with a stranger can be a difficult and daunting experience. But this is the beginning of a journey that I am committed to supporting you on, every step of the way. My approach is warm, empathic, non-judgemental and respectful.

How do you feel right now? Can you put a word to that feeling? Feelings can often go unchecked and we don't notice until we feel overwhelmed. In modern life we are constantly bombarded with information and feel pressure to make decisions. We anxiously think about the future and regretfully think of the past. Unable to find peace in the now. A therapist can act as a companion who can help you explore your feelings in a safe environment. Help you learn more about yourself. We all have aspects of our personality that we keep hidden from others and even ourselves. Together we can explore these aspects.

If you are considering some counselling/therapy, a good way to see if we might be able to work together is for us to have a conversation. This is why I offer the first session free-of-charge; a no obligation meeting for you to see if I can help you to begin to identify your needs. My experience includes working with people who struggle with anxiety; low mood; bereavement; and loss and also those who have suffered trauma; those who have suicidal thoughts; and those who have self-harming behaviours. My practice is also psychosexually informed, and I work with people experiencing sexual problmes/issues.

If you are in the process of considering counselling/psychotherapy then finding the right therapist is the most important decision to make. Research shows positive therapeutic outcomes are based on the relationship between therapist and client. A good way of assessing if we can work well together is attending a free of charge session; no commitment beyond this, to see if I can help you to identify further what your needs are.

This life is filled with challenge, heartbreak, confusion, overwhelm and un-nameable wounds, but there is also profound potential for meaningful connection, clarity and joy. Let’s work together to learn new ways of navigating life’s struggles and rediscover the magic of your existence. I am an EMDR-trained, trauma-responsive Relational therapist. As a Relational therapist, I understand that some of our most basic human needs are to belong, to be understood, to be valued & seen for who we are, and to be loved. When these needs are not met, we can experience a wide range of challenges in ourselves and in our relationships with others.

Summoning the courage to talk to a professional about what is distressing us can be the most difficult, but also the most powerful step towards improving our wellbeing and our lives to a standard that we are more satisfied with and that we deserve. I aim to create a space where the client feels safe, whilst also communicating trust, compassion and understanding so that I may understand what their current experience is truly like for them. I integrate various schools and models of therapy, which I have assessed, are the best intervention for a client in each session and closely monitor their reaction to these.

In times of distress, thoughts and feelings can often be confusing and overwhelming. It may seem as though you have lost your way or sense of perspective. You may feel you need to speak to someone simply to get some emotional relief or you may wish to discuss a specific issue which is having an impact on your life. Sometimes it can be difficult to find your voice or even know what the issue is.

I am an Integrative Therapist who has been practicing in both private and community sectors since 2015. I am originally from South Australia and Belfast has been my home for 12 years now. I believe that self-awareness and happiness are not a destination and toxic positivity takes us further from who we are. We can become stuck in what has happened to us (depression) or fear what may happen to us (anxiety). Tabula Rasa means clean slate "Where there is nothing, there is the possibility of everything". That slate exists in the present moment and by exploring what your life means to you, you can create a meaningful life.

Yes. Being human can be tricky. We can all get stuck. Stuck in our heads and our feelings, in relationships, work, obsessions and compulsions, stuck in unhelpful behaviours and unhelpful ways of seeing things. But, we can all get unstuck. Practicing since 2002, I would be seen as an integrative therapist and counsellor, integrating multiple therapeutic models and approaches. So, we have many ways to make better sense of life situations: 12-Step Recovery Programme, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Humanistic, Person Centred and Psychodynamic approaches; Integrative Counselling.

Existential Counsellors

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
