I'm a UKCP and BACP registered psychotherapist, clinical supervisor and EMDR therapist. My approach is integrative and draws on a range of therapeutic approaches including CBT, Existential, Jungian & Transpersonal. For trauma/PTSD and early relational/attachment issues, I offer EMDR, may include body-centred work (mindfulness/therapeutic yoga/Qi Gong) and draw on relevant trauma treatment models, including sensorimotor psychotherapy. Perhaps you feel stuck, find yourself in the middle of a crisis, or you want a space in which to examine and reflect on your own story and what has brought you to the point you're at now. Perhaps you want to see if there is another way of telling your story. My intention is to grow a unique and collaborative relationship with you. We may work on your present situation as well as the whole of your history. The confidential space that therapy provides can bring healing of old patterns and wounds. It is my own wounds and periods of suffering and the growth that arose from those moments that have drawn me to this work.

Hello, I am Meral. You may have arrived at this page because you are wanting to feel different. Whether or not you have in mind where you would like to start, let us figure it out together. Anxiety and depression can often take the lead in our lives. The impact of external stressors and of our internal world including thoughts, feelings and behaviours can serve to perpetuate unwanted maintenance cycles. Together we can explore and better understand what you may be experiencing. Through my expertise I can guide you in acquiring tools and techniques to promote self-empowerment, choice and desired change.

Life and relationships are not easy to navigate, and if you’re experiencing anxiety and depression, or going through difficult times, things can feel overwhelming. I understand how difficulties cause you to lose your sense of control, your overall wellbeing and even your sense of who you are. These are normal experiences, but if you’re struggling to feel a basic sense of joy about being you, or if your relationships are causing you more pain than pleasure, then it might be time to seek help. It can be difficult to imagine how talking therapy can help, but together we can work towards symptomatic relief and the freedom to be youself.

Hi! Thank you for stopping by… I am very much an empathic, caring person with a lot of passion for the work I do. Sometimes the road gets tough, but with a therapeutic relationship, we can figure out a way to drive right through the challenges.

I'm a humanistic therapist based in North London and have experience of working with people who are suffering from a range of issues, including relationship problems, anxiety, depression, loneliness, low self-esteem, trauma and loss. My approach is integrative, which means I'm able to draw on different types of therapy techniques that suit your individual needs. It can be hard to know how to approach difficulties you may be having and even harder to talk to those closest to you. This is where therapy can be hugely beneficial and I offer a chance for reflection in a warm, non-judgemental and confidential environment.

I offer a safe and confidential space and a therapeutic relationship to explore what's pushing you down or holding you back, to help you move forward from difficult experiences, and to gain more freedom, ease, and creativity in your life. As a UKCP accredited integrative therapist with a background in psychology obtained in the US, I hold a balance between different theories and therapy approaches in line with your needs. Where appropriate, we can integrate EMDR to help you process trauma and stuck experiences, within a holding therapeutic relationship. I work with individuals and with LGBTQ couples both short-term and longer term.

Hi, I'm Rachel. I am a psychosexual and relationship therapist. I work with people from all backgrounds and walks of life, although most often I work with clients who fall into the category of gender, sexuality or relationship diverse (GSRD), whether that means someone is kinky, polyamorous, a sex worker, queer (or a combination!). I work with people on a wide variety of issues: I see couples who want to work on improving communication in their relationship; I see individuals who are struggling to identify what they want sexually; I see people who want a space to process their feelings more generally.

Navigating today's world doesn't get any easier, does it? Social media tells us how to look and feel and yet many of us can end up feeling shamed and inadequate. We may have goals we want to achieve yet it's all too easy to feel discouraged, out of control, and feel we will never get there. Sometimes the only thing we feel we can have control over is our eating or other addictions. But this usually leads into a downward spiral. What my clients have found is that by joining me in a course of psychological therapy they can unravel the twists and turns they have found themselves in.

Your curiosity about therapy at this point in your life may feel really clear to you and then again, maybe it doesn’t. It’s not always the things that have happened in your life but also those things that haven’t. This might show up as not feeling good about yourself or connections in your life. There could also be things you want to reflect on and understand better. As a qualified Integrative Counsellor, I can support you with perspective and working through what would be helpful. I know how hard it can be to ask for help and I know the value of talking it out in a private and understanding space.

Waitlist for new clients
Some transitions seem too much to bear. Like changing a job that doesn't fulfil us anymore, or leaving a relationship that has run its course. Making the decision can seem impossible. We make lists, examine the risks, and weigh the pros and cons. But we can end up going around in circles, justifying any or all options. This can be so frustrating and mentally exhausting. Even once we've decided, uncomfortable or painful feelings may arise. We doubt our wisdom, or grieve what we’ve lost. We feel anger at having to go through this. All this can leave us feeling lost and disorientated, like walking through fog.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
