We all struggle at some point in our lives and there is benefit in seeking some help to move forwards and get past what is holding us back. Professional psychology sessions can fundamentally change things within a short number of sessions (6-16). I work with people who have any presentation of symptoms, experiences or unexplained ongoing physical or neurological symptoms. I work with trauma - which is what we can be left with following challenging relationships or difficult life events.
We can't experience feelings without the body feeling them. My favoured therapeutic approaches are now body-focussed therapies (specifically EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). Using this kind of therapy we move away from a cognitive understanding of our problems and into changing body responses and resolving trauma.
I always suggest to people who are looking for a therapist they contact three therapists and speak to each one to see who they feel they connect with best. That sense of connection is the most powerful predictor of recovery in therapy.
