Hello and Welcome. Thank you for looking at my profile. My name is Elisabetta and I am a qualified integrative counsellor, trained at the University of Edinburgh, and a Master Degree in Clinical Psychology in Italy. I am based in Edinburgh and I can offer individual sessions in person and online short and long term, as well as in English and Italian. My approach combines psychodynamic theories and systemic-family orientation, and it based on the belief that the context in which we live, the relationships we establish and the communication style we adopt have an important role and influence on our development and who we become.

So, if you are a neurodivergent person or their partner, parent or family member, please do get in touch, so that we can look at your situation and make a plan accordingly.
Hello, I'm Kirsti Willis - an autistic HCPC registered Art Psychotherapist (BAAT). I offer neuro and LGBTQIA+ affirming, trauma informed counselling and art psychotherapy to neurodivergent people of different ages (no diagnosis required), couples and families. I also offer advice and support with parenting. Often neurodivergent people feel very anxious, which can result in e.g. frequent meltdowns, as well as sleep issues. They can also struggle with relationships and be low in mood. They are also more likely to be traumatised than a neurotypical person. However, with the right support any situation can be changed for the better.

Hi there, my name is Ana and I'm a psychodynamic therapist and supervisor with a special interest and experience in working with those affected by existential issues and a Masters thesis in working with adult children of parents with narcissistic traits. In my client work, I draw on my background in psychology, philosophy and systemic therapy, as well as psychodynamic therapy and attachment theory which looks at the unconscious relational processes between us and finds links between what you're experiencing in the present and your early childhood and family experiences. My supervision approach is both psychodynamic and integrative.

I usually begin with an online face-to-face consultation for me and parent(s) to talk about what's been going on, and what the hopes and aims of the whole family are.
Children and teenagers significantly benefit from counselling therapies, which studies demonstrate are highly effective both in the short and long term. For older children and teenagers, talking therapy offers a unique, safe space to explore and understand feelings of sadness, anger, or anxiety. Younger children can benefit from a combination of play and talking therapy to help them process difficult experiences.

I work to integrate these different approaches to suit the needs of each individual or family.
I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years experience of working with adults and with young people (12-18) and their families. I have tended to specialise in complex difficulties including self-harm, depression, stress and anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, problems with overwhelming emotions and difficulties in relationships. However I am open to working with any emotional or behavioural problems which are getting in the way of someone doing the things they want to in life.

My specialist training in working with relationship dynamics, attachment disorders, adult sexuality and family systems creates a space for deeper exploration and improved communication.
Difficulties and stress in the relationships that matter most to you can be a source of distress, anxiety, frustration or despair. When all your efforts to make things better still haven't worked, maybe it's time to think about trying a different approach. Working with a experienced relationship counsellor can give you the time and space to explore what is troubling you. I work with individual adults and couples from all backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities to help them gain insight and fresh perspectives on life, relationships, and other issues that cause distress.

I have had the experience living in quite a big blended family, as well as witnessing some of the most important relationships break and then form into something new.
Hi, I'm Maya Tomse. I'm a Psychologist, a Psychotherapist and a Counsellor. I work with couples and individuals, online. I specialise in relationships, and troubles specific to transitions we go through, especially complex life transitions. My interest in transitions and relationships stems from my own personal experiences. I was born in Yugoslavia, a country that got torn apart by war when I was around 10 years old. Later, throughout my life I've lived and worked in many different countries and at present hold 3 different citizenships.

Not feeling fulfilled? Stress and anxiety getting in the way? Shame around past events or the present perhaps? Maybe these affect your relationships, family, work or generally your self esteem. Importantly, neither searching the internet nor self help books have been enough, and you need a human relationship. Someone who will listen to you without judgement, and who will attend to you and help you process your sometimes overwhelming feelings. Equally, you may be looking for a psychotherapist to work with by way of self development.

When we are trying to make sense of our situation or understand ourselves, we may feel we need someone to hear us. It could be something in particular that is causing you difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self confidence, bereavement or relationship issues (family, personal or work). Or it can be a feeling of uncertainty, something about how you are feeling isn't quite right. We are all part of an interconnected world influenced by and influencing our relationships and situations. For this reason I give attention to what is happening now, your personal history, life situation and narrative.

I have 30 years experience giving counselling, I’ve been a specialist NHS eating disorders therapist, addictions therapist, CAMHS therapist, Adult mental health clinician and counselling manager. I’m neurodivergant informed and developing a government counselling service for Special schools. There are many reasons why people come to counselling, we all struggle at times and may experience anxiety, low mood, loss or find life harder to cope with. It’s scary to ask for support, I understand this, I grew up in a family with complex needs and this experience is the compassionate basis for my work, bringing a deep understanding.

There are many reasons to look for help. If you’re feeling anxious, feeling low, have family troubles, relationship struggles, or maybe there are traumatic experiences fresh in your mind or in unresolved in your past. Any of these might make you want to reach out to someone for some help.

Maybe the values, beliefs or expectations of your family or culture are at odds with your authentic identity, creating an inner conflict.
Hello and welcome! I’m Roz and I am an experienced Pluralistic Counsellor, providing online therapy. I have also worked in creative industries and love working with and nurturing creative minds. Our sense of self is coloured by our early experiences and often determines our adult choices, emotional reactions and internal dialogue. We absorb and adapt to the difficulties of our caregivers and circumstances, often filtered through previous generations of adversity. If this is your experience you may feel easily rejected, anxious, judged, angry or inadequate. You may feel a sense of depression, hopelessness, stuck or overwhelmed.

I work with a range of ages and backgrounds, including those experiencing depression, anxiety, transitions, family issues, low self-esteem, as well as survivors of trauma.
We aren't meant to fit into boxes. I believe that you are the expert of yourself and that my role is to help you explore whatever you bring in a nonjudgmental way with awareness, curiosity, and support. What brings you here today? Sometimes we seek therapy because we need someone to listen without judgment. Other times, we may feel that we have lost ourselves, or are trying to figure out who we want to be going forward. While there is no magic wand to get there in an instant, my practice style is to come alongside you and hold a safe space for you on your therapeutic journey.

I was the first to join the Association for Family Therapy's register of systemic practitioners.
Hello there, thanks for checking me out. Individuals: Life’s toll can leave us with hurts and regrets. Sometimes we end up so wounded everything loses its shine. Life becomes colourless. We struggle with trauma, anxiety or low mood. By creating a constructive conversation with me, we can work towards healing. Couples: I use emotionally focused therapy to help create a connection between spouses and partners. I explore hurtful cycles of interaction to change them. Together we develop positive cycles to heal the relationship. Families: I specialise in young adults/students and their parents; blended families; alienation; child contact

Life is ten percent what you experience and ninety percent how you respond to it. Starting counselling can be a bit scary, but living with unresolved problems is probably much worse. I believe that conditions such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and codependency signal that something is preventing us from thriving. Embarking on the journey of counselling can feel daunting, especially when grappling with conditions like Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and the complexities of family issues and trauma. Yet living with unresolved challenges can often feel challenging.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
