I specialise in supporting those with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, depression, abuse, trauma/ PTSD and racial/cultural issues.
If you are feeling overwhelmed with anxiety or having stress in your relationships, daily life can seem very hard. Emotional distress can leave you feeling lonely or even isolated. Perhaps you find yourself putting on a pretence that everything is okay, saying yes when really you want to say no. You might be unclear about what is troubling you. As an experienced counsellor, I provide affordable therapy in a confidential, safe environment, helping you make sense of how you’re feeling. Counselling can also give you practical ways of coping; I will work at your pace during sessions so that you feel truly heard and accepted, not judged.

I have expertise in issues such as: depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, neurodivergence including ADHD and Autism, bereavement and loss, eating disorders and negative thoughts/ behaviours.
I see therapy as a team work to go on an adventure: step into the unknown of your being! My approach is Holistic and Integrative. Holistic means that we work with different layers of your being: your physical, mental, emotional and energetical bodies. If you’re open to, we will work with breath, mindfulness, chakras, energy blocks and dreams. I have seen over and over that the process of healing is quicker when we both go beyond our minds and work with all of us. Working Integratively means that I have a tool box of different approaches and I use the one which is suitable to you at the right time.

Welcome,     I'm Rizwan. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist here to help you.   I believe the path to positive change is easier when you have the right support in place. That’s why I take a person-centred approach to therapy, where your voice and concerns are the focus of the therapy. This may seem obvious at first look, but it means that the support you receive will be tailored for your needs. It also means is that your life will be at the forefront of all our conversations, because when you have someone working with you, making sure your voice is heard and your needs are met, life is much is easier to live.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
