Maybe you haven’t been feeling quite yourself lately or a significant life event has left you reeling, or you just can’t quite put your finger on it, but you know something is off. It can feel really overwhelming, scary, heavy and lonely when this happens. The thought of reaching out for help can feel very daunting and I really appreciate how hard it can be to send that first email or make that call. I will do my best to put you at ease and provide a safe empathic space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment and be fully accepted just as you are. All emotions are welcome tears, laughter and swearing.

Hello, I work with a range of issues, including anxiety and depression. Being heard and accepted for being who you truly are, can feel incredibly empowering. When this is taken away, our thoughts can trigger unhelpful behaviours, increasing low mood. Which in turn can play havoc with our emotions. When we feel lonely and isolated, overwhelming feelings can flood our thoughts and fears. I can offer you a safe, warm, and confidential space to explore any issues that may contribute towards your anxiety and depression. I am here to listen to you in an non-judgemental way, and to support you with any changes you wish to make.

How many times have you questioned why you repeat the same actions, find yourself in the same relationships, similar conditions or even ruminating on the same thoughts. We often do things unknowingly and have a deep longing to know why. You long for insight on your past and your present and feel anxious about the future because of this. It is at your worst moments that you seek self introspection, yet you still feel stuck. Perhaps you have self doubt or have uncertainty about where you are or what you want in your life. You have a deep desire to attain the life you dream of but feel that you get in your own way.

There are a lot of reasons why you might be looking into therapist right now. It could be that you feel as though you have lost yourself or are confused about who you are. Maybe it's a sense of feeling lost in the world or you're feeling overwhelmed, weary or confused. Perhaps relationships are difficult or you're experiencing pressures in life and they are starting to feel out of control. Therapy is a space to explore experiences and find ways to live through them with the bonus of someone by your side being there for you during that time. Sometimes you may not be able to put a name to what it is you are experiencing and that's OK.

If you have suffered a bereavement or are a survivor of sexual abuse, then it might not be easy to talk about your thoughts and feeling with friends or family. Talking to someone that you can trust to be non-judgemental and who values you as a person, will help you to feel heard and safe. I can help you to have a better understanding of what you are feeling. Or, If you are just feeling feeling low and need someone to talk things through with, to be able to gain clarity over a situation that you might find yourself in, I can offer you a safe space to do that.

Are you finding life challenging? It may feel like something is holding you back, or perhaps you can’t feel yourself really living. You may have developed coping mechanisms that are negatively impacting your life. Maybe there are parts of you that feel disconnected, numb or shut down whilst you function through your daily life. Talking can be hard to do, even with those around you. I work alongside clients using symbol and metaphor to gently identify experiences that words are difficult to define. I help people with stress, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, sexual abuse, PTSD/CPTSD, OCD and much more.

Hi, I’m Becky. As a counsellor I can offer you a safe space to talk freely, getting things off your chest in a confidential environment or a chance to explore your feelings or things that are on your mind. I don’t offer advice but will guide you in becoming more self aware, understanding your feelings and thoughts and finding answers for yourself. At this time, with lockdown and all the things that come with this, things can feel uncertain and lonely. I am offering sessions over zoom, starting with a free telephone consultation and concessions for sessions to encourage everyone to reach out and ask for the help that they need.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
