My aim as a CBT therapist is to help clients who may be struggling with life challenges and develop a shared formulation that is individualised, that brings awareness to and understanding how your difficulties may have developed and are being maintained. This acts as a “roadmap” for our therapeutic understanding and intervention and will be covered in the initial assessment session(s). We will agree on how many sessions to meet for (usually six to 24, depending on the duration and complexity/severity) and help you work towards your set goals and values.

I have been working as a therapist for 13years and have a broad breadth of experience working with many presenting issue's. I take a warm, comfortable, welcoming and genuinely caring approach to my work. Asking for help can be very difficult and I recognise that. If you feel you have tried everything and nothing has changed then talking to a professional may help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Therapy can be useful to increase awareness and provide understanding of why we do what we do.

At times (perhaps especially now) we are all capable of experiencing feelings we find distressing, or behavioural patterns we struggle with. Perhaps even 'just' a sense of unease, a lack of confidence or stuckness, a needing more of a sense to be free, to be you. It might be that you feel out of sync with the world or with yourself, accompanied by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, loneliness, guilt, anger, anxiety or stress, or simply a sense that there is somehow more to you then what you presently sense. I can actively support you to change and bring more clarity to, or acceptance of, those issues you are currently experiencing.

Do you feel stuck, sad, or anxious? Are you an adult struggling with life right now? Or a parent concerned for your child or teen? Life can throw up difficulties at any time, a difficult childhood, trauma, or a relationship breakdown. You or your child may have experienced bullying, difficulties fitting in or managing social and cultural expectations. These experiences can lead to the development of anxiety and low mood, self esteem issues, and other mental health difficulties. Therapy can help you to understand yourself, and the impact of your thoughts and behaviours more deeply.

My therapeutic approach is largely transpersonal integrative, which means I am able to integrate other approaches into my work, including humanistic, CBT, solution-focused and expressive/art therapy. How I work is entirely dependent on the needs of the client I am working with. Transpersonal therapy is a holistic healing intervention that evolved from the humanistic work of American psychologist Abraham Maslow in the 1960s. I am a registered member of the UKCP, and I work in accordance with their ethical guidelines. I offer both face-to-face sessions as well as online therapy which is accessible to all regardless of location.

When it comes to psychological suffering, internal conflicts and even serious personality disorders, psychology uses new integrative for the intervention.
The psychologist can help you. Count on the support of a professional. Many think that the psychologist is exclusive for mental illnesses, this is a myth, the psychologist works in several areas and uses the best and specific knowledge to help people to have an improvement, guidance or even a determination that generates doubts in several aspects of your everyday life.

Intervention Counsellors

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behaviour and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behaviour has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
