I am also trained in CBT and an Accredited EMDR Therapist.
During these difficult times, when we are isolated within ourselves, it is natural to feel stressed, anxious and/or depressed or low in mood. Now more than ever it is important for us to look after our mental health, so that we can all emerge from this period with more self-awareness, and with a better level of psychological balance. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it is important to recognise your struggle and give it credence. Health anxiety, depression and insomnia may be writhe, but I am here to provide a treatment, tools and strategies that have a proven track record of recovery.

My therapeutic approach follows the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy model which aims to understand the present difficulties an individual may be experiencing, and build a collaborative conceptualisation of these difficulties, in order to make sense of beliefs and behaviours that may have developed over the years and may be perpetuating distress in the present.
When you think of starting therapy, you might be at a pivotal stage in your life where you are repeatedly facing a wall that you want to break through. Understanding what might be going on for you is the first step before you begin.

Our approach is informed by contemporary psychoanalytic theory and is grounded in a trauma-informed practice and we depending on the person's needs, we can offer CBT specialist support to match the person's needs.
We embed a Trauma-Informed approach to our clinical practice using a contemporary psychoanalytic lens. We seek to provide individuals with a safe and supportive environment in which they can explore and process their past and present experiences. This approach recognises the impact that trauma and resilience can have on an individual's psychic world and seeks to address these experiences in a gentle and compassionate manner. In a trauma-informed clinical practice using a contemporary psychoanalytic lens, the therapist works collaboratively with the individual to explore their past experiences and current feelings.

I view therapy as a journey of healing, growth and discovery. Alongside my private practice, I work as a Clinical Psychologist and researcher in the NHS and academia, where I study the influence of trauma in childhood on adult mental health. I have training in different therapy models, and offer integrative therapy to adults, adolescents and children/parents of younger children. I am influenced by psychodynamic models of thinking, but also draw from systemic family therapy and CBT (in particular “third wave”, which connects how we think to how we feel and our relationship to our inner experiences).

This practically means that I adapt the way I work to meet the person’s needs drawing from a variety of therapeutic modalities such as Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, , Mentalization, Attachment and Gestalt.
I have experience working with individuals across a range of presentations such as low mood and depression, anxiety and OCD, gender identity, attachment issues, bereavement, phobias, emotional regulation difficulties , autism/ neurodiversity, ADHD, and difficulties with interpersonal relationships.I believe that unprocessed experiences impact on our well-being. Thus, constructive change requires an understanding of how unresolved issues interact with present 'difficulties' which in turn influence our future direction. I am lecturer in Higher Education with NHS experience.I charge £90/session & £120/session for AVIVA clients.

I'm an experienced EMDR Therapist, Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist - level 7 (MSc) in CBT, Person Centred and Attachment Theory( Psychodynamic).
My approach to therapy is friendly, respectful & totally non-judgemental. Primarily I use an Integrative Therapy based on TTM ( Transtheoretical Model of Change) based (between others) on your goals, readiness to change and the fact that ‘no one type of therapy fits all’. Psychoeducation about your symptoms, coping strategies (CBT and Mindfulness') will improve your everyday life and if you feel ready to work on the 'the roots' of the current difficulties- EMDR, Counselling and Attachment Theory would be something to explore. I adjust therapy to my clients and not the other way around.

I am trained in a variety of psychological approaches, such as cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Being human, it is only natural we are continuously faced with life's numerous challenges. Painful emotions, such as fear, sadness, grief, frustration, anger and many more show up in response to life's challenges and we have all been 'well-trained' to go for 'fixing' or 'controlling' these responses in the quickest way possible. Ironically, it is this urge to control such painful internal experiences, that often creates and in fact exacerbates our struggles! I am here to help you gain new skills to manage difficult internal experiences in a more helpful manner so you can start living your life more fully.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
