Do you feel, undervalued, unheard, disillusioned, and stuck? Perhaps you are a French expat homesick and struggling to adapt in the UK? Or neuro-divergent not managing the complexities of work, emotions, relationships and life; Or LGBTQ battling against barriers and rejection or trying to come out? Maybe you have a sense that there is a lot more to life. Finding a therapist is hard. You have landed here with the hope of finding help and understanding, well done. Carrying our worries endlessly and alone is even harder.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of therapy. To provide a space where you feel safe, respected and never judged. I am an trained in various therapies including cbt therapy. Sometimes life throws us a curve ball and getting up everyday and doing everyday things is a struggle sometimes we need someone to walk through the dark times with us and to remind us we are not alone and things can and will get better. I am also a qualified coach and work with women that have experienced abuse. For 22 years I have also worked as a clinical supervisor.

Hi, my name is Karen. I gained my qualification in counselling and psychotherapy many years ago in 1997. I was privileged to attend an accredited course at Salford college. I also acquired certificates in sociology, psychology, child psychology, criminology, and hypnotherapy. Alongside the hypnotherapy certificate, I completed workshops in dream therapy, sex therapy, and inner child work. Over the years I have specialised in inner child work, and have witnessed many positive outcomes from using this technique. Since qualifying, I have worked with a diverse range of issues, of which no problem is too big or too small.

Are you feeling lost or stuck but perhaps can't understand why? I can help you to understand how difficult experiences and trauma have impacted on the way you are feeling now. Together we can work to find strategies for healing and recovery so that you will feel empowered to move forward with strength. I work pluralistically, which means I do not adhere to one specific modality. I will work in a way that feels right for you, is safe, secure and confidential. My goal is for you to live your best life.

If you are struggling with relationships, loss, stress, or feeling lost and overwhelmed, you might feel like you’re stuck, don’t know where to turn or how to move forward. Sometimes we don’t know what to say, how to say it or even fully understand what we are feeling; it’s often not just one thing that we are feeling but a complex mix of different emotions. Our sessions together will give you the opportunity to be heard, to explore your emotions and unpick the difficulties you are having.

I became a therapist because earlier in my life therapy helped me through anxiety and an eating disorder. So I know what it feels like on the other side too! I believe deeply in the therapeutic process and I am living proof that healing and recovery can change your life for the better. Working with me, we will create a space where you can feel totally safe to open up all the issues affecting you, discuss them and explore them and hopefully help you find the clarity and direction for you to move forward in a positive way.

Having worked in the NHS for over 15 years, I have delivered evidence based talking therapies to adults from a range of backgrounds. In more recent times, I have predominantly offered online therapy to people experiencing PTSD, depression, and a range of anxiety disorders (for example, health anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, generalised anxiety and so on). Working online fits in very well for those fitting therapy around work, education and family life, and is also very supportive of people living with long term health conditions. I am able to work with people aged 16+ and I am trained in Child and Adolescent EMDR.

There comes a point for many people when distress, anxiety and confusion take hold and psychological help is needed. Sometimes the reasons for this seem all too apparent and sometimes they are quite baffling. It can be enormously helpful to talk things through with a professional person who is unconnected with your family and friends I am warm, empathetic and genuine. I'm a qualified therapeutic counsellor with over 13 years’ experience working with both adults and young people. I am a registered member of the BACP, working in accordance with its Ethical Framework. I am based in Hindley, near Wigan.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
