Life can leave us feeling quite lonely, confused, or uncertain what to do. I offer a warm and understanding space for you to start to explore these feelings in a safe environment. With experience working with a range of clients and issues I can help you to start to figure out those next steps to regain a sense of control over the issues you may be facing and support you as you move towards finding your balance again. Working within the person-centred approach means I believe in the innate sense we all have inside of us to know and create the change we need for ourselves.

Bereavement doesn’t only cover the loss of a loved one, this is an expansive area where we experience loss, whether this is the loss of a home, a relationship a job or indeed the passing of someone we love. We can also experience grief with the loss of a way of life, friendship and loss of an expected future or expectation of something happening in a certain way. Loss can create an array of emotions and thoughts which I can help you to unpick and understand enabling you to feel a sense of calm again.

My clients often come to me because they're battling depression or anxiety that feels so overwhelming and insurmountable that, whatever they do, they can't pull themselves out of their despair. They may have specific relationship, family or career concerns and cannot see a clear way forward.

I offer short and long term therapy for young people and adults experiencing a range of emotional and psychological difficulties such as family and relationship dynamics, stress and anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain, life transitions and historic trauma. You may be feeling stuck in familiar patterns which make you feel vulnerable, afraid or alone causing feelings of emotional overwhelm and confusion without resources to help you cope with daily life. I understand we consider therapy when it feels no longer possible to resolve difficulties and life challenges alone. With warmth, kindness and curiosity, I am here to help.

Is life overwhelming and you need to talk to someone? Maybe you need help to develop coping strategies for your anxiety? Whatever challenges you are are facing, I offer a confidential and supportive space to explore your feelings. Being heard and seen in this space, without judgement can be deeply healing. I won't give advice but I won't sit and say nothing either. Instead, I will ask questions and offer other perspectives, enabling you to consider your troubles in depth, and giving you an opportunity to explore what you can do to move forward. I can also suggest ways to help manage panic attacks, and feelings of anxiety and anger.

Anxiety is tough, but I can help you cultivate a new, empowered relationship with it, giving you the freedom to live more authentically - in your relationships, work life and free time. Anxiety has many faces. Maybe you wake up with a knot in your stomach, worrying that something bad will happen; avoid social events because they are too uncomfortable; replay conversations in your head wishing you’d handled them better; find it hard to concentrate; under the weight of your churned-up feelings, you say things that put a strain on your relationships. How far back can you trace these uneasy feelings? Maybe all the way to your childhood?

Life can be joyful but it can also be incredibly stressful and challenging. I don’t believe any of us can navigate life without experiencing difficult and painful life events. As with our physical health, maintaining our mental health and wellbeing is a lifelong commitment. Given the right set of circumstances any of us could experience mental health difficulties. We can experience traumas and adverse life events which can significantly impact our mental health and lives. There are so many factors that can influence how we are thinking, feeling and behaving, causing us to feel unwell and overwhelmed & in need of help and support.

If you find that words or language is a barrier to understanding yourself and your challenges then music therapy is for you. Being playful with instruments can seem daunting, but you do not need any particular skill and I will help support you in building your confidence to explore and create in a way that helps you gain insight into your emotions and understanding of yourself.

Are you in emotional pain, feeling alienated or dislocated from other people? Do you feel stuck or wish that you could have more satisfying, less stressful relationships? Perhaps your fears and worries prevent you from realising your potential. I work alongside people to help understand the reasons behind such thoughts and feelings. In coming to understand the patterns of your life, and the confusing and painful feelings that accompany them, you can begin to make consciously informed choices about how to live. This leads to a more authentic and less critical experience of yourself, opening the way for greater enjoyment in life.

Does your child challenge you? Not in the ways that others might think... Somehow their behaviour is just... different! But in ways that only you understand. Perhaps your child runs away, doesn't listen, spits, shouts, smears or has frequent "meltdowns". Or perhaps you suspect your child has a condition like Autism or ADHD- maybe they were recently diagnosed. No matter what is underlying your child's challenging behaviour, as parent myself, I want to help you reduce the behaviours so that your child can achieve their full potential!

I understand that seeking counselling for the first time can be daunting. Life can be overwhelming and difficult to make sense of on our own sometimes. Often people don't know where to go for support. Therapy can help you to explore your problems in a confidential, safe space without judgement. Through building a trusting and open relationship where you feel heard and understood I believe that we all have the potential to grow and heal.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
