You appear successful on the outside, but inside, you are struggling with self-doubt, anxiety, feeling stuck. You may feel like your life is passing you by and you have little control over it. You don't have the confidence to try new things and take steps towards change. You are driven by fear rather than desire. You know you are meant for more, you want to take that next step, break free of what is holding you back, understand your self-worth and create meaningful connection with people. You want to get up every morning excited about your life. You want more, but you just don't know where to start!

I offer a respectful, warm and empathetic ear, together with a safe, neutral space to help you to talk, and work through any issues you may have. I am not here to tell you what to do nor give advice; I am here to help you explore and discover your feelings I offer a free 10-15 minute consultation on the phone as a way to introduce myself and give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about me and the counselling process. Sessions will differ depending on the mode of therapy we decide to use. We may work more in the here and now or, we may look at where issues have stemmed from in the past: I will be led by you.

Life can present us with unwelcome events at any age. Professional counselling can't change these events but can provide tools and techniques to help minimise their impact. In my practise, counselling is primarily about the relationship between you and me. It is a talking therapy where we can explore what is troubling you in a safe, non-judgemental setting. Every person is an individual and therefore counselling can be different for everyone. I am more relationship driven rather than theory driven.

Life can become extremely tough at times and that can lead to the erosion of our sense of wellbeing. We may find ourselves feeling constantly fatigued; struggling to enjoy the things we used to, withdrawing from activities, feeling bleak about life, feeling anxious or having physical complaints such as being more frequently unwell and struggling with digestive issues or muscular aches and pains. These issues could suggest that stress is having an impact on your psychological wellbeing. It can often prove challenging to work out how you got from A to B and how to navigate a way back to A.

Living (or parenting a child) with the effects of trauma and other mental health difficulties can feel impossible. Unfortunately, finding help can be a daunting process with so many solutions being offered and not all of them being evidence based. The next best step is often to get in touch for a free 15 minute consultation to find out if I feel like the right fit for you or your child.

We can all find ourselves at a point in our lives where things feel difficult. Sometimes our problems can grow so that we cannot see a way past them. I can offer you a safe and accepting space, free of judgment, to explore the things you are finding hard. Together, we can work to identify things you may want to change, or I can support you to work towards acceptance of things you may not be able to change. By supporting you in this way to explore your challenges and difficulties I can help you work towards a deeper understanding, a feeling of self-acceptance and a sense of empowerment in your life.

At times life can be tough and we have all needed some support at one time or another. You may be experiencing low mood, stress or anxiety or facing situations your struggling to make sense of. Counselling offers a safe space where you can understand and discover your genuine thoughts and feelings without fear or judgment. We all have a right to be our true selves and to feel heard and understood by someone who genuinely cares and respects us.

Hi, my name is Clare. I am a child and adolescent counsellor using the arts. I take a genuine interest in young people and enjoy engaging with them in an informal approach. Sometimes, young people aren’t able to talk about how they feel. I offer an alternative means of expressing complex or painful experiences that may otherwise be difficult to convey in words alone. It’s vital to offer ways of communicating feelings other than through everyday language, for example, with paint, clay, music, drama or sand play. I will always follow the child’s lead, as my first priority is for the child/young person to feel relaxed and comfortable.

I enjoy working with young people and adults alike. I have been told by past clients that I am open, honest and friendly, which are qualities that all clients have valued. I like to problem solve and am a very logical and practical person. Having lived in several different countries, I have developed a good understanding of a range of issues for people from different cultures and backgrounds. I like to ask questions and truly get to know someone and never assume to know better. My clients are always the experts in their lives and I see myself as a guide to help them navigate to a calmer place.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
