I am a qualified and BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, experienced in treating anxiety, depression and PTSD. If you want to find ways to think and do things differently to feel better, then CBT could be right for you. Together, in a safe and structured way, we will make sense of what may be keeping you stuck and empower you to learn strategies to work towards your own goals. This could involve learning new coping techniques, challenging negative thoughts and beliefs, or experimenting with different ways of doing things. By the end of therapy you should have new tools to be able to live your life differently.

I work first and foremost with the Person-Centred approach, however, when I see fit I bring in a range of models and theories such as CBT, Existential, Transactional Analysis etc.
The decision to look for a counsellor is a huge step and one which I feel should be commended.I provide a safe space in which you are listened to, understood and not judged. My aim is to encourage self-understanding and hope. There are of course various reasons for choosing to go to counselling. In my sessions, I respect the uniqueness of each individual. Our focus will be on the areas that matter to you and what you would like to achieve. I believe that therapeutic change comes from having our feelings validated and explored in a friendly, safe and empathetic environment.

I also use other approaches in my work such as transactional analysis, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational enhancement therapy.
I provide counselling from my private practice at my home in Melksham, Wiltshire. This is a private room providing a safe and confidential space for our work together. I can offer various daytime and evening appointments throughout the week. My training helps me to provide you with a reliable, regular, non-judgmental space where you can begin to talk about whatever is on your mind. I work in what is called an integrative way, using a wide range of therapeutic models, but primarily focusing on humanistic counselling.

When we feel stuck, experience difficult emotions, or the challenges we have are distressing, finding a space to work through and move beyond what has led you to experience those difficulties can feel overwhelming in itself. In working together we look to create a space where you can explore, make sense of and manage distress, address challenges and build psychological well-being, while supporting you to build confidence to move forward.

I help those who seek clarity about their situation, through discussion of the challenges. Viewing issues from multiple perspectives, including evidence based models helps you to get things more in perspective, more malleable, and more manageable. I see to your needs & provide resources as you transition, while we face issues together, & grow your capacity to journey beyond me. This may involve an exploration of the past, or practical focus on here & now strategies & approaches, which influence the map of your life journey you are carving.

My work is with both individuals and couples. The skill-sets and experience I bring to therapy draw off my Systemic Practice, honing the skills of Internal Family System (IFS), plus Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), for couples. These approaches are well known to bring about the transformative qualities and resources that exist inside people. These approaches are known to make difficult experiences possible, such as healing trauma, phobia or anxiety. I’ve learned this is possible through the evidence of transformations that I’ve witnessed in my practice and what my clients feedback.

I specialise in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) which has been shown to help in a range of situations, such as anxiety and depression.
We all are subject to emotions like low moods, worries and frustrations; it’s all part of being human, the brain we inherit and the effect of our environment. However, when these emotions turn chronic, exaggerated and persistent, we suffer from situations like depression, anxiety and anger, which impact on our lives and well-being. These emotions spill over, adversely affecting our goals and relationships at home and at work

I originally trained in CBT but have specialised now in EMDR, Schema Therapy, and integrate Internal Family Systems to focus on the attachment relationship with clients, helping them see that they are not a problem but that there are just different parts of them trying to cope with what they have experienced in life.
Are you struggling with anxiety or low mood, relationships with others, or have you experienced traumatic events in childhood or as an adult which are impacting you now? Have you experienced therapy where you felt your needs were not adequately met or you were being "fitted into a box? Did therapy just focus on the here and now? CBT can be a very successful therapy but in some services it can leave people feeling like they are failing and not focusing on what they want to. I believe that the therapeutic relationship and feeling safe in therapy is essential for progress and this is at the centre of my work.

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
