Are you suffering from an eating disorder? Are you constantly feeling not good enough? Are your anxieties stopping you from living the life that you want? Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed or burnt out? Are you a perfectionist with unrelenting standards and highly self-critical? Do you find yourself sabotaging your relationships? Whatever your circumstances, I am here to help. ‘Tutum' is a latin word which means 'safe'. I founded Tutum Psychology to provide a safe space for people to talk. The scientific literature has shown that feeling safe in your therapeutic relationship is important in order for therapy to be a success.

I champion a person's ability to empower themselves and develop a stronger self connection and connection to others. It is a privilege to share in the personal challenges and ventures of each unique individual & couple I work with in therapy. If you need to find a space to really be listened to, make sense of past, present or future events, discuss personal issues and learn how to move into a deeper understanding of yourself & your relationship to those around you, I would be honoured to be there alongside you.

Want to move forwards but feel stuck, or a change is proving tough to navigate?Perhaps the past feels too much part of your present? Therapy can help. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist I am guided by your needs, we'll work at your pace to explore what is going on and help you to find a way to manage what this means for you. You may need a space that feels neutral and safe to talk about things that you have never talked about before; and to talk to someone who is there to fully listen to you with no distractions. Many clients say they just want to be able to find their joy again and know themselves better.

We can all experience difficulties in life, and asking for help requires courage. My experience of working with people is that often there is a feeling that something isn’t quite right, and this can create feelings of isolating and disconnection. This may result in feelings of anxiety and depression, and working out what the core issues are can be difficult. Part of my ethos is to encourage people to be curious and make sense of their feelings, in a non-judgmental, confidential, warm and empathic way. To deepen their understanding, and with support, create their own choices about ways in which to positively move forward.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
