Are social situations leaving you drained or unfulfilled? Maybe you can't speak to friends and family about how disconnected you're feeling and they aren't understanding you. Do you want to be more open, assertive and have a greater sense of purpose in life? Need time for yourself? A space to air confusing or painful thoughts and experiences that build up over the weeks. Sometimes we need to reflect and vent about our relationships with a warm, neutral professional.

There are many reasons people seek out therapy, no matter what brings you to therapy, it is important. You might be finding that distressing thoughts or feelings are becoming overwhelming. Or perhaps you experience unpleasant physical symptoms like headaches and tension. Experiencing an emotional response is a normal, but understandably, it can be unpleasant, and you might feel uncertain what to do when it happens or how to cope after. Sometimes we all need support and guidance; we don't have to deal with everything on our own, especially when it gets tough

My name is Yingli Wang. I am a self-esteem counselling specialist and a mother-daughter relationship connoisseur. In my self-esteem counselling, I help women overcome low self-esteem and self-worth issues, and transform “Not-Good-Enough-Syndrome” into your innate strength and resilience. I also work with relationship and family issues, which are often rooted in unresolved childhood trauma and unconscious relational pattern. Maybe you’re thinking and feeling things you don’t want to think or feel. Or maybe feeling nothing at all. Perhaps things keep going wrong; or perhaps nothing changes. It could be you feel you can’t cope. Or something has just come and hit you for six. Counselling is a safe place to explore things like that. It’s a place with the potential for personal change. Fortunately, we humans can change our minds. Literally. A fancy word for this is plasticity. Even more, we are designed to change in each other’s company. It’s how humans learn to fit in. So we make a new relationship, you and I, and this is our vehicle for change.

I don't believe that there is one method of psychotherapy that suits everyone. I believe in adapting my way of working for each client I meet. You may feel that you want to work short-term on a specific aspect of your life. You may feel that you want to take time to look back on your early life experiences or you may not know where to start or where you are going. Whatever your situation is, I will do my best to see the world as you do and, where possible, offer you an alternative perspective. I believe the same is true for children and using sand tray and art materials I allow children to process their emotions through play.

I have worked in the NHS previously and have therefore worked with mental health ranging from Personality Disorders to Depression. Working independently with my own practice has enabled a wider range of clients including working with eating habits, OCD and low mood. I truly believe that having some space to discuss what is going on for you makes a big difference and I will work with you on whatever issue you are bringing to the session. I have also trained in couples therapy so I am able to offer this as well as individual sessions. I offer weekday appointments, evening sessions on Wednesdays as well as virtual on a Monday evening.

I welcome people with a wide range of issues and recognise that most people do not bring issues that can be easily defined as a single category. You may have recently experienced a crisis in your life, such as bereavement, loss of a relationship, trauma or illness. Or perhaps you are less clear about why you are finding it hard to cope, you might be feeling anxious, stressed or experiencing unpredictable emotional swings but not be sure about why this is happening. Or maybe you are finding the process of ageing difficult and unsettling.

Many people have experienced misdiagnosis often with autism or ADHD overlooked and misunderstood by therapists.
My name is Sarah and I have over 20 years experience working as a Psychotherapist in the NHS and in private practice. I specialise in CBT, ACT, Compassion focused approaches and in EMDR. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), includes a range of talking therapies, all based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, what we do, and how our bodies feel, are all connected. If we change one of these we can alter all the others. When we’re low or upset, we often fall into patterns of thinking and responding which can worsen how we feel. CBT works to help us notice thinking styles or unhelpful things that we do so we can live better.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.
How does ABA work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.
How does treatment for autism work?
Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.
How long does therapy for autism take?
Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
